WOIN Suppressive Fire with Bows? Crossbows?

So there is mention of suppressive fire in brief in the "Combat" header in the OLD hardcover, and in several places in the NOW hardcover, but the actual action is not described in either, only being described in the woinrules website and the NEW hardcover.

Is it an intentional omission from OLD? Can you give suppressive fire using a bow?

Also the Single trait doesn't mention not being able to do suppressive fire, nor does the suppressive fire action in the NEW hardcover mention single weapons not being able to do suppressive fire, but the woinrules site also says single weapons cannot (which makes sense to me).

Basically I'm curious which set of rules I should be trusting the most here? It seems to me the most obvious situation here is that the suppressive fire action is supposed to be available in all settings, and that single weapons can't provide suppressive fire, which would mean crossbows can't, but e.g. a longbow can.

I would agree with the premise that longbows/shortbows/compound bows can provide suppressive fire, much like a semi-automatic firearm can, but not ranged weapons with the single trait, like light/heavy/hand crossbows.
