Survivabiliy

The same thing in 1st and 2nd edition, but you get more than just one when found....

Yes, it's basically the same thing, except that in 1st edition (especially), Clerical spells are mostly really, really weak. And you don't have that many of them.

Consider that Cure Light Wounds was a massive 1d8 hp of healing, whilst Cure Serious Wounds was 2d8+1 HP and fourth level...

Your best damaging spell with it - flame strike - was 5th level, and did 6d8 damage. Maximising that was nice, but it'd tend to kill most small creatures anyway, and the tougher one would still be standing afterwards because they'd make their save even with it maximised.

Not that there were *that* many tough creatures, but I'm sure the cleric could find some. ;)

3E was a massive change here. A 10th level cleric casting Flame Strike was dealing 10d6 damage (and would gain more dice as the levelled), and - in particular - wasn't altering the difficulty of saving against the spell.

Cheers!

Cheers!

IMO that item is just insane. IMC like Candles of Invocation I would not allow my PCs to purchase it or wish for it, and put it up there with minor artifacts.

This being 3rd edition, the real issue is less the divine caster making it themselves; it's only one feat and CL 7.

Now, imagine what happens if the divine caster gets access to Disintegrate in a serious way. There are a couple of ways that could happen . . .
