Just curious, but why all of the love for the Phase Spider? Not a creature I have ever really warmed to or used that much as a DM against adventurers.

See also: Hook Horror, Kraken, Roc. They are all iconic D&D monsters that have been around for decades...but I've never used them in a game, and probably never will.

Well, I can understand the Kraken and Roc. Classic and iconic monsters that I have used many times against PCs. I agree with you on the Hook Horror though. I just always found them too silly to use.

Cheers :)

Sillier than a falling, crawling stalactite? :p

About the same. I have used Piercers more than Hook Horrors, but that was when I was much younger. My tastes have improved and I find the Piercer just as silly as the Hook Horror now. Now I did like the take in 3E where Darkmantles were created as a younger form of Piercer. That was much more creative and believable. Definitely much more usable as a creature in a dungeon. The ultimate form of the creature becoming the Roper when it matured enough.

Still, tastes are different, hence we have these contests. :)

Cheers
