Survivor D&D Computer Games- Baldur's Gate WINS!

lowkey13

Exterminate all rational thought
h/t @Gradine

This thread is inspired by the prior threads on the iconic monsters, best cannon fodder, and so on. Most importantly, it was suggested due to an ongoing dispute regarding the best D&D computer games. S

That's right- we are going to settle this the old-fashioned way. With a pointless survivor thread and bad jokes!

IMPORTANT NOTE- DOWNVOTES ARE 2 IN THIS THREAD.

REPEAT- DOWNVOTES ARE TWO IN THIS THREAD.

Each game starts with 20 points and you vote for one game you like which gets 1 point and a game you dislike which loses 2 points. It is intentional that a negative vote is worth more than a positive vote- first, because we don't want to be here all year. Second, because.

Upvotes are in green, downvotes are in in red (unless you are on your phone, and are unable to, in which case please indicate your votes some other way). Copy and paste the previous posters vote and change the numbers. You may vote once per day. This is an honor system, and we are all honorable gamers; please do not abuse it. If this means you vote once at night one day, and once the next morning - that's fine, but don't vote again until the following day.

This is purely a popularity contest and you do not have to explain an upvote or downvote, but feel free to- explanations are where the fun is! When downvotes reach 0 the fey is eliminated (FATALITY! NO REVENANTS!). Finally, if a game has one vote left, then you have to make the choice to use all of your downvotes to eliminate it; there is no vote splitting. In addition, you must split your vote- you can't upvote and downvote the same game (no "see" votes).

Some important points that you must read before voting-
1. This is a pure popularity contest, and is meant to be fun. You can cast your votes for whatever reason you want. Spite, irrational love/hate, gameplay mechanics, strategic voting, and hating all computer games because you can't stick your pencil in a computer screen is perfectly acceptable. This vote does not affect anything in real life, and no game will be removed from your hard drive, flash drive, USB, or other medium of computer storage because of this vote. You can comment for the reasons for your vote, or not- up to you! But this is for enjoyment only.

2. This is the list of computer games for D&D as listed in wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dungeons_&_Dragons_video_games

Please note that we are only using the computer games that use the D&D rules.

As @Invisible Stalker has pointed out, there are other awesome games, such as the one for Intellivision. But that would make the list too long. If there is interest, we can have an additional survivor thread for those games after this one. But because he asked nicely before the thread was created, AD&D Cloudy Mountain has been added.

IN ADDITION, BECAUSE OF THE SHEER NUMBER, WE ARE USING THE SORTING SUGGESTED BY GRADINE.

If you wish to argue with his sorting, please send your helpful comments to /dev/null.

As always, the list is the list, please do not alter it.

Katana Nope. Katana causes a buffer overflow.

Baldur's Gate WINNER WINNER RUN THE ENHANCED VERSION DINNER!

For updates on may classic D&D computer games, see-
https://www.beamdog.com/

Note- I am not advocating for any of these.

UPDATED- CAN NO LONGER RUN ON A MODERN COMPUTER SYSTEM!

I have edited the main post to omit "series" as there was only one GoldBox Spelljammer release.

Sword Coast Legends 18 - Uninspired, broken, and bears no real resemblance to 5e other than the proficiency bonus system. It failed for very valid reasons.

SCL was garbage. Couldn't even run it when it came out past the demo map because it ALWAYS crashed. Very common problem with lots of people. And it didn't feel like D&D at all. The worst of the bunch by far (although Warriors of the Eternal Sun was pretty bad too.) Nice to see Cloudy Mountain on there. My 1st D&D video game :)

Is this like the computer game equivalent of the old joke about the restaurant?

The food is terrible .. and the portions are so small!

"That games is so boring and dull, and I couldn't even finish it!" :)
