Downvote for The Return of the King. While there are plenty of parts to enjoy, it condenses and eliminates so much that the core story of the book is damaged. Bakshi's Lord of the Rings may be slapdash and anarchic, but it at least manages to be more faithful to the material (I mean, other than the whole Ahriman/Saruman thing, and Boromir being a viking... ).
