Sustenance - Tracked or Handwaved

Tracked.

OTOH, in civilized lands, my PCs seldom actually need to have their own food, because farmers and lords keep feeding them. It's good to have adventurers on your side, after all. :D Sometimes they eat at the inn/tavern.

I also track arrows and the like -- though, again, refills are easily had in civilized lands. I see nothing wrong with not charging upkeep for some things, as long as the players know where it's coming from.

For example: In my PBP, no one has ever needed to use a single ration from their own stock. They have been consistantly fed by others, and I've made sure to say who was feeding them: The Archdeacon, the priest in Kell's Reach, the villagers of Kell's Reach, the Faerie Queen Maeve, Lord Merryhahn. These providers all have a vested interest in the PCs, and they have motives in courting their favour.

I run my tabletop game the same way. PCs need to eat. Even though I track, they seldom need to be carrying rations to do so in civilized areas.
