SW saga edition overview at WotC

I don't have a problem with it, though I'm not speaking for anyone else. We didn't remove the idea as a character, we just found a different way to make that character, which I at least like better.

We removed the Force adept core class too. beleive me, that doesn't mean you can't play a non-Jedi Force user. In fact, it's easier than ever, and I think more likely to produce the character you want.

Well, I will be buying a copy after Lent is over and I hope you are right.

What's the point of being a Jedi if a character of any class can become as powerful with the Force as you are?

I don't think it's been said that the non-Jedi Force-users would be able to become as powerful as Jedi characters. In fact, I think I recall from reading on the WotC boards that the Jedi class will feature abilities that make them far more potent Force users than non-Jedi Force users. Given the focus on the movies, I'd be very surprised if the Jedi didn't retain several advantages when it came to Force usage over other Force users (save perhaps the Sith). Not to mention class abilities that will likely enhance the usage of the ever-glowing beat-stick.

Oh, yeah... That was always one of the biggest and most common complaints I heard about Force Adepts...

The fact that, if you wanted to be a non-Jedi Force user, you either had to play the stereotypical Force Adept tribal shaman priest, or you had to pick up all the Force feats on your own -- and suck not only at the Force, but everything else you wanted to do with your character as well.

so in theory they should really have turned said force adept into "generic force user".

or, pr level, get a bonus force feat and similar ;)

That, or redesigned the Force to allow anyone to become "generic force user" in addition to their main schtick.
They seem to have chosen the second path. And I applaud them for it.

It kind of reminds me of Alex Flagg's (Crafty Games) attempt at converting Star Wars to Spycraft. He got rid of the Jedi class altogether and simply made a series of feats to represent the Force. That way, if you want to be a militant Jedi, you play a soldier with the Force. A standard Jedi might be a Martial Artist. Consular types would be Advocates.

I though the basic idea was pretty brilliant myself.

Wow, that overview looks really dull and awful. My group really has not had a problem tracking skill points, or reputation, or Wounds. But I'm sure "d20 StarWars for Dummies" will sell to a (literally) wider audience and that's what count$.
