SW Ships book still useful w/Revised game?

I have bought a bunch of SW books, but only since the revision. It would be nice to have a book of ships, but the only book they published was before the revison.

How does the previous book hold up under the light of the revised edition? Your opnions are appreciated...

It has some uses and neat ideas. Also, many of the ships are useable with a bit of tweaking. However, I would only buy it for cheap. It's a pretty slim book, and some of the material is totally useless with the revision (off the top of my head, 25%). Just my 2 cents.

You can find an update to starship speeds here:

http://www.swrpgnetwork.com/files/faq/

There is also an update to the Starships of the Galaxy Prestige Classes. This is also the home of the Star Wars FAQ.

These are the same updates you can find on the WOTC web site.

I believe the other big change that came in the second printing of the Revised Rules, is they doubled the DR's for shield and hull points of all starships. You would need to do this for the old ship stats.

Hope this helps,

Max

just curious, but what 25% are your referring to?

with the ship's movement rates converted to "squares" and the slight changes to the prestige classes both available on the WOTC website, i can't think of anything in the book that can't be used in the revised edition.

the ship stats and design system can be used as-is (after doubling the DR as Max noted) with no problems at all.

I might have been a bit harsh, but looking at chapter 4 gives me some idea of what is useless (the combat options etc and the advanced combat system). Overall, I guess the book itself has seen little use for me. I was hoping for more ready made ships that would be of value to me. I didn't get it. Some of the ships were unique in type and many of the classic type ships were missing. It just didn't seem a "complete" book for me. Just 2 more cents.

well I can agree with you there.

although i think it's a decent book as it stands, i'd love to see them do to it what they did to the Alien Anthology -- make a revised version that's about 150-200 pages long and hardcover.

Cha-ching!

I would buy that and I want that too. :) I also bought the above book after the revision and really, minus the changes in the revision, I’m quite happy with it.

Then again I buy D&D 3.0 materials still.

yeah, it really surprises me they haven't done a starships book for the revised edition yet.

starships and space combat are a huge part of the Star Wars paradigm. it really deserves it's own book. a big, fat, hardcover book. :)
