Swamp Trek III: The Search for Ter-raen

Unexpectedly, Gildrim drops to a knee in front of the priestess and bows his head. "Guid sister, this mischief beirs mah name, an Ah dinnae knaw whit tae dae."

The priestess' eyes soften. "There, now. It's not your fault, Gildrim. You're right about Corvin, he'd have found an excuse sooner or later. It's just... those poor lads he talked into following him. They don't know the first thing about the swamp, none of them! If they find one lizardfolk between the lot of 'em, I'll eat Corvin's muddy boots. Especially after... ah, but never mind that. What brings you back here, Gildrim? And who are your friends?"

Gildrim squares his shoulders and recounts once again his tale of failure, in abbreviated form.

"Ye must knaw hauf th' tale frae Erf. Efter he left us tae bring th' wee green lassie tae ye, Ter-raen an' Karm an' Ah went back in. We war ootmatchit by undeid aneath th' hoose. Ah wis th' anely ane tae win back oot, thocht nae frae ony prowess ay mah ain."

"Apikotoa guidit me weel, an' Ah went tae tell mah tale tae mah employer. He wisnae happy tae lat his matter rest, sae he's hired thaes three tae dae th' job Ah coudnae. Ah'm back, acause Ah willnae lat th' big daft orc lie foriver wi' th' unclean deid standin' ower him. He widnae want that."

"But hou-so-iver, we're haur tae find that by nae returnin' throu Cragger's Rest, Ah've lat Corvin dig up a dire badger's den."

He makes a small shrugging gesture, acknowledging Sister Anemone's apportionment of the blame, if not quite accepting it.

"Are Erf an' Ksh- th' wee green lassie aboot? Ah shoud lat thaim knaw tay, aboot Ter-raen an' Karm."

"Er, no, they're not, um, they're not around just at the moment. I've sent them on some errands, to gather... Ah, blight it," she starts, doing an obviously poor job of lying. Then she throws up her hands, and continues more naturally, "I might as well tell you the truth. They've gone into the swamp, to warn the lizardfolk and help them stay out of Corvin's way. Don't let on around town, eh? Even if nothing goes disastrously wrong out there, Corvin's gonna look a fool, and if there's gossip about those two scamps being involved, well... It could get ugly."

"hmm, i was going to reccommend we do likewise. I do believe we may have need of the assistance of the lizard folk as guides, so it would be to 'mutual benifit to each of us""

Sister Anemone looks at Karl and Richard, keen eyes looking for something. It's not clear if she finds it or not, but she responds, "Well, if anyone could talk the folk into guiding you at a time like this, it would be Gildrim. The trick would be finding one to talk to, though. If Erf's warning reached them, they will have disappeared. Usually, I know how to contact them, but right now, I wouldn't have the first clue how to start. Your best chance of actually finding one would be just to wander around the swamp and hope they find you. But as you know, that has its own dangers."

"Ah thank you but no on the wandering in a swamp. I was on a hunting party once where we lost a stalwert holy warrior to some of those dangers. it was two shoker lizards that brought her to her end. Very sad thing that. I think we may need to find another method of finding the folk we seek, then."

Richard looks down at his thick metal breastplate... and gulps. Clearing his throat, he speaks up at last, "Perhaps we should head to our primary objective, if the Lizardfolk are likely to find us anyways, we could accomplish both goals in one action."
