Swashbuckling Adventures (D20 7th Sea)

Salutations,

Thanks for adding to the discussion, Erik.

I decided, after much consideration, to buy the book last weekend and am generally happy with the purchase.

It is a shame the weakness aspect of the schools did not work, but I can understand the difficulty of the situation. Heck, if it was easy- there would be many posted solutions already.

The panzer-hand schools are going to be used by the dwarves in my campeign. I can't wait for that first battle.

Are there any hints for what might be coming in the future of 7th Sea d20 books? Others have mentioned a magic book.

Respectfully submitted

Next out will be a Hero Monster and Villains book, which unlike other books of NPCs, each character will have a Feat, Magic Item, Skill or something else that no one else in the world will have (and thus if your GM allows it, your character could have the same feat, item or skill or whatever... but don't tell the 7th Sea guys... shhh!)

After that will be the Magic of Theah book, featuring a bunch of new Magic Classes. They work similar to a Sorcerer but they need not prepare spells and they have a bunch of uses per day, the down side is that their spell selection is extremely limited. This book will have a metric load of spells, some feats, classes o' plenty and other mechanical goodies.

Following that we begin the "hybrid books" but I hesitate to talk on these since the schedules for them are not set.

Hope that helps

Ugh! Swashbuckling Adventures just seems incomplete without the sorcerous types. I was very much hoping Magic of Theah would be the next item out of the gate.

Also, does that mean that there will be no sorte/porte/whathaveyou villians in the hero Monster & Villian book?

Eric:

Thanks for coming by and clarifying a few concerns I had with the book. Much appreciated!

As I've said before, Swashbuckling Adventures is a worthwhile purchase and I recommend it. It enhanced my (non-7th Sea, non-swashbuckling, non-gunpowder using) D&D game immensely, so it has a lot of uses beyond the obvious 3 Musketeer/Pirates era. :D

In fact, no other third party d20 fantasy book comes close to matching this one for sheer crunchiness. Lots of great material to yoink for your own or use with 7th Sea or some other setting.

My only beef is that I hope AEG's editing gets tighter next time out the gate... Other than that, this was a great book... but why isn't Magic of Theah next? It seems more necessary to run 7th Sea than a Heroes & Villains book, IMO.

Hmm, I wonder what John Wick thinks of this book? I remember reading that he didn't think 7th Sea lent itself to the d20 system, and here's AEG going ahead with it anyway.
I just wonder...

So Kaptain Kantrip has found a new toy ;)

Well, I've just ordered the book, so in a week (now I hate living in France ;) ) I will be able to add my opinion, but even if it is half as good as Spycraft or Rokugan d20 I will be fully pleased.

I wish the editing had been up to Par as well... The problem comes down to not only having good editors, but good mechanics editors, which is a talent of its own.

We felt that the design of the magic book would require more time and care than the HMV book. HMV is a book to keep the line active until the Magic can hit the shelves... although I agree that MoT would have been a great second book.

I read that as well, in that online PDF mag. I was working on the book at the time... I printed it out and jokingly asked Z if I should stop. I don't think Wick would have cared for it, since it is a book of mechancs, and John is a story guy at heart who likes games like Over the Edge and Amber, which are known for their lack of a system...

I never knew you guys were located in Ontario, Erik. I just spent four years in school right next door in Claremont. I would have come knocking on the door looking for a job if I knew you were so close :D
