Swashbuckling Movie Suggestions?

My wife and I rented "The Black Swan" awhile back, and it was really good...I don't remember the actors' names, but it was an old one.

For an over-the-top swashbuckling reinterpretation of Dumas' classic, I recommend "The Musketeer." The fight scenes were choreographed by the same guy who did "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." :D

I wouldn't recommend the Musketeer. You would think they they would know not to speed the fight scenes up by speeding up the film in front of things they can't control, like flaming torches (Watch the final fight scene). I have little love for a 3 Musketeers movie in which the primary chracter can't pronounce his own name correctly or can't follow its own continuity (the main character is wearing a Musketeers symbol one minute and not the next.)

Hawkeye

Well, pretty much every swashbuckler movie I love has already been named...

I do want to second the recommendation for D'Artagnan's Daughter. That is a very fun film.

The 40s version of The Three Musketeers (starring Gene Kelly) has a couple of good fights, the one with the Cardinal's Guards from the start of the book being full of humour and energy.

You just can't go wrong with Dumas. Honestly.

You can't go wrong with Dumas, if you can read the original French. If you can't read the language, you can go wrong, but it isn't Dumas' fault. Some of the translations are dry. Drydrydry. We're talking bones baking in the Death Valley summer sun dry.
