When I'm swearing in character, I tend to use more appropriate swears like - "Damn them to Auril's coldest hells!"

When I'm swearing out of character, I try to use less strong language and wooden swearing. I'm actually pretty much a potty mouth out in the real world, but amongst my gaming group I try to censor myself because well... we are in a gaming store. For the first half our gaming session we can end up with young kids playing Magic right next to us. So I say things like:

"What the snikity-snack?"

"Son of a biscit/bizmark!"

"Rasum-frasum." (mumbled)

I swear in character. I don't feel that using a "curse", like "By the Hells!" has the same effect, so I use contemporary ones. Don't often swear out of character though.

However! I did play in a star wars game for a little bit, where the DM proclaimed, hey, there's no swearing in star wars. Nobody there was offended by swearing or anything, it was just a style issue.

The Star Wars group I run just can't go a game without a good yelling of "Stang!" or "Sithspit!"(my favorite. :D ). I can't imagine a game of SW without someone yelling Sithspit!!

We too curse like pirates. I wish I could say we swear less when in the game store then when we are in the privacy of the backyard shed but its not true. Out of the group I am the worst offender. I'm not sure why because I don't curse at my job or anything. DMing just brings it out of me. As for IC/OOC issues I just assume that the curse words we have now are also curse words in the game world. It is just fantasy. Who cares?

There is one NPC rouge who curses constantly but in an odd mix of Farscape alien slang and Planescape cant. "Frell you berk!" is often heard. :)

I curse a lot in person, but just out of habit. It's not meant to be horribly demeaning, just - it's me.

In games, however, it typically doesn't come up. Especially when it's not stylisticly appropriate.

But I still like to call my dice all manner of things. :D

A favorite of mine from the days of yore, when we played in a WotC store in the mall(and were consistently threatened by the manager to be kicked out) was "f'heck."

It even became a letter on Sesame Street in-game. Grover pops up and goes "Today's, episode, of Sesame Street. Is brought to you, by the letter, F'heck." And then he'd get his head blown off.

Also, Frell was very popular with our DM back then, Ricky.

Both groups I play in are a bit different. In one, there is a smaller amount of roleplaying and more strategic talking so we tend to swear a lot. In the other (where I run) it is more focused on RP-ing so we swear only in spurts or when OOC.

I don't swear, ever. Not only does it keep me out of trouble with parents of various kids, but it also means that if I ever become extremely annoyed, I can swear and it's really satisfying. Nothing like the shock value, when most of my friends have never heard me swear. In highschool, one person heard me once, for example. I'm now 29, and that philosophy has stood me in good stead all my life.
