D&D 3E/3.5 Swiftblade Remix

Nifft

Penguin Herder
Swiftblade

Prerequisites:
- Dodge, Mobility, Weapon Focus (any slashing weapon)
- Spellcraft 10
- BAB +6
- Ability to cast haste as an arcane spell

Benefits:
HD: d10
Good saves: Reflex, Will
BAB: Full (as Fighter)
Skills: 4 + Int -- Balance, Craft, Concentration, Gather Information, Jump, Knowledge (arcana), Listen, Profession, Spot, Spellcraft, Swim, Tumble.

Code:
[u]
Level BAB F/R/W	Special Abilities [/u]
1	+1 +0/2/2	Enhanced Mobility, Speed Boost, Quick Casting
2	+2 +0/3/3	Maintain Speed
3	+3 +1/3/3	Temporal Blur
4	+4 +1/4/4	Null Time Denizen, Flurry

Enhanced Mobility (Ex): You are an expert at avoiding attacks of opportunity. Add your Swiftblade level to the bonus provided by your Mobility feat.

Speed Boost (Su): Every level of Swiftblade, you gain a +10 ft. enhancement bonus to your base speed.

Quick Casting (Su): Once per day per level of Swiftblade, you can Quicken an arcane spell for free (without increasing its casting time, using a higher level spell slot, preparing it ahead of time, or having the Quicken Spell feat).

Maintain Speed (Su): Whenever you gain the benefit of an effect that enhances your speed, its duration is doubled. You are immune to any effect that would slow you or reduce your speed.

Temporal Blink (Su): Spells and attacks cast by your designated Dodge target have a 20% chance of failing against you. This benefit does not stack with the benefit provided by blink.

Null Time Denizen (Su): Whenever you are within 120 ft. of an effect which grants its caster extra rounds of subjective time (like temporal acceleration or timestop), you gain the benefit of the spell or effect (in addition to the caster or manifester). You and the caster are considered to be in the same "time-frame", and you can injure each other. You are immune to any effect that would shift your time-frame involuntarily (such as time hop).

Flurry (Ex): When you make a full attack, you gain an extra attack with a slashing weapon for which you have Weapon Focus. All attacks this round are at -2.

No spellcasting. This is more for the Abjurant Champion fan rather than the classical Gish builder. He's not trying to be a mage, he's trying be a magical fighter guy.

Good skill and save synergy with Rogue, but not much prereq synergy.

Capstone ability is very strong, but only if you play in a caster-heavy campaign at levels where such spells are cast. If you do, you change an "insta-win" spell into a "danger danger" spell.

I do believe I see a reference, here.

I have no idea what that is, but he seems to be saying the same thing over and over?

"A twist in the fabric of space where time becomes a loop... where time becomes a loop... where time becomes a loop..." :)

Psi Swiftblade (Free Web Bonus!!!)

Prerequisites:
- Dodge, Speed of Thought, Weapon Focus (any slashing weapon)
- Psicraft 10
- BAB +6
- Ability to manifest burst and time hop

Benefits:
HD: d8
Good saves: Reflex, Will
BAB: Full (as Fighter)
Skills: 4 + Int -- Balance, Craft, Concentration, Gather Information, Jump, Knowledge (psionics), Listen, Profession, Spot, Psicraft, Swim, Tumble.

Code:
[u]
Level BAB F/R/W	Special Abilities [/u]
1	+1 +0/2/2	Speed Boost, Maintain Speed, Quick Manifesting
2	+2 +0/3/3	Temporal Dodge
3	+3 +1/3/3	Temporal Blur
4	+4 +1/4/4	Null Time Denizen, Flurry

Maintain Speed (Su): Whenever you gain the benefit of an effect that enhances your speed, its duration is doubled. You are immune to any effect that would slow you or reduce your speed.

Temporal Dodge (Ex): You are an expert at avoiding attacks. Add half your Swiftblade level to the Dodge bonus provided by your Dodge feat. If you also have the Psionic Dodge feat, add half your Swiftblade level to that bonus, too.

Speed Boost (Su): Every level of Swiftblade, add +10 ft. to the bonus provided by your Speed of Thought feat.

Quick Casting (Su): Once per day per level of Swiftblade, you can Quicken a psionic power for free (without spending extra power points).

Temporal Blink (Su): Attacks and spells cast by your designated Dodge target have a 20% chance of failing against you. This benefit does not stack with the benefit provided by blink. If you have the Psionic Dodge feat, and it applies to a different target than your Dodge feat, you gain this benefit against both.

Aw, dang, I was totally certain you were referencing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure with that Null Time Denizen ability. See, there's a bit in the big climactic battle of the most popular series fo that comic (which, naturally, was made into an anime sometime in the 1990s) where someone uses a power exactly like that. That is, one guy stops time and beats the hell out of people with impunity, and the protagonist reveals a previously-unknown ability to continue to move within the timestop effect.

I hope it wasn't named the same thing! That would be eerie! :)

Anyway. Bonus Psionic feat:

Defensive Hop [Psionic]
Prereqs: Blind-Fight, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Psionic Dodge, Improved Initiative
Benefit: You may expend your Psionic Focus as an Immediate action to avoid any attack or effect, even one that would normally catch you flat-footed, to hop yourself forward in time by one round. You reappear on the same initiative count that you left. Note that the Immediate action eats your Swift action for the round in which you reappear, not the round you skip.

Wow, that's a really cool idea! I like this in general much better than the official Swiftblade.

However, one suggestion: add in a fifth level, and give a benefit similar to Perpetual Options (9th level ability of the official swiftblade): Instead of an extra attack from haste, can take an extra move action a round (I think extra standard would be too strong for even a partial caster). That way, the Swiftblade can use his high movement and mobility bonuses with his Flurry ability. Is that too good? It'd be character level 13+, right?

The Swiftblade has been updated on the Wizards website. It's a LOT better now. Search it there and you'll see what it SHOULD have been when it was posted.

Unfortunately, I can't check the Wizards site from school. It should be right. The previous Swiftblade that was there was updated. A LOT of things changed. If the link doesn't take you to a Swiftblade with good BAB and 4+INT skills, it's not right.
