GM:
Oddly, the adventure does not include such a picture or map. It does state that "The ford itself has a large open area where the army could stage a battle-it's currently being used by the tieflings as an encampment. The surrounding terrain can provide concealment if the PCs wish to attempt to ambush the Tieflings." I will get with my co-DM and see what we can come up with.

OOC: no need. I think I can work with this. Before the coma, And anyone else who has walked this road knows as well, sometimes the mind has shut doors in it that needs challenges like this to reopen those mental pathway doors.

OOC: And, oddly, sometimes you don't even know there's a door in what seems to be a blank wall, until that sucker opens to reveal a yellow brick road to FunTimesGalore, who, incidentally, is somewhat frumpier third cousin to Pussy Galore.

And then there are those odd doors best left shut and locked!

Banaq, Elf Sorcerer L5, Archmage T1

[ooc: Getting back to the IC story, AHEM!]

Banaq decides that he is being selfish and just wrong by leaving, but he is not yet ready to rejoin the PCs as if nothing happened. So he goes to a gathering of troops near the PCs where he can observe them from a distance without being noticed by them. He will join in whatever discussion the men are having, being careful to point out to them that nothing is wrong because of his being with them, he just needed a break from "big-boy politics" or some such. And he will pitch his tent wherever they show him that they have room for him. [They've got to know Banaq is an odd duck immediately, because whoever heard of an Elf sleeping in a tent!]

Randlay dismounts and begins prepping his gear for the coming battle. "Whether a hail of arcane energies or good ol' iron and steel, directing a contingent of the men to act as ranged support under the command of Keva, myself, and whomever else is inclined to that sort of thing seems like a good idea to me," notes the crusader. "As far as I am concerned it's just a question of how many men to dedicate to that role."

Kestrel watches Banaq go and, unaware that he will eventually return, shakes her head.

Had she been too hard on him? But then again, was that the measure of his resolve and commitment? If a few strong words would turn him from his course, what of flaming swords and demonic claws?

Maybe it was better this way. They were weaker without him, but at least now that weakness could be assessed before battle, and planned for...instead of suddenly revealing itself when the need was greatest.

It felt wrong though. He was a comrade. If she let him go, wasn't that abandoning him? But then, wasn't he abandoning them?

Ugh.

This was why she liked working alone.

Thorn went back to the command tent to listen to the planning, and see what she might do to help. In truth, she had little hand in the grand strategy...the movement of armies and men. Her role was smaller, quieter, and more targeted. And she was happy to leave it so.

[section]

'Keva listens closely to the dust--up between the every prickly Thorn and the Elven mage, being very careful to keep any trace of emotion form his bluff features. Seen this many a time . . . kids got some settlin' in t'do, as th' stress cranks up. Hopefully they'll get it straightened out b'fore sumun gets killed fer it. Him being more about skirmishes and scouting missions, and not one for large unit tactics, he waits patiently for the experts to deploy him where he'll be most useful.
