Sword, Two-Bladed Question

The Levitator

First Post
Ok, I feel like a complete idiot asking this, but it hasn't come up in a game of ours in the 2 years we've been playing 3.5. I just want to clarify something. One of my players selected a two-bladed sword as their primary weapon, using Exotic Weapon Proficiency as one of their fighter bonus feats. The PHB says that you can make a second attack with this weapon, with negative modifiers of course. My question is, can a 1st level fighter make 2 attacks per round with this weapon, or do they have to wait until 6th level to get the second attack? If they can make 2 attacks, it would be considered a full round action for both attacks, right?

Yes, he can make two attacks with it at level one. With heavy penalties (-4 for his main attack, -8 for the second attack, which is made with the other end of the sword).

Basically, treat it exactly as if he's fighting with two weapons, the off-hand weapon being light. If he takes Two Weapon Fighting, his penalties are -2/-2 for the main attack and the second attack.

Each end of the sword has to be enchanted seperately, has to be made masterwork seperately, etc.

Thanks a ton for the quick reply! :D I kinda figured as much, but just wanted to be sure. The weapon is actually a family heirloom. In this campaign, I'm starting out all the players with one above average item, and he chose a +1 2 bladed-sword. We run a pretty low-magic availability world, so it's actually a pretty decent weapon. We also run HP at 1/2 with the highest level characters hitting 10th-12th level. I was also thinking about having the weapon increase in power as he gains levels too, so I know he'll be using it a lot!

Sounds nice, I do similar things (signature items).

So that guy with the 2bladed sword has effectively two +1 weapons. Pretty strong for a beginner. Just take care the others don't feel underpowered and it'll be ok.

Have a look at the Kensai class in CW, leading the PC towards that class would provide game mechanics how he can increase his weapons enhancements.

Here a link to a recent thread explaining two weapon fighting (it's the same for double weapons with the small difference that you can use a double weapon either as two weapons or as a twohanded weapon).

Thanks a bunch for the link! :D I can't believe that after 2 years of gaming with this group that is new territory, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in action! :)
