Swordfish: Gabriel Shear - Alignment?

I say Lawful Evil. Theres a sense of total moral absense where non-Americans were involved. He loved his country and wanted to protect it's citizens, although he would sacrifice as many as needed to obtain his goal. His code of ethics seemed to revolve completely around makeing the retribution for attacking America so horrible that no one ever would. Aside from that goal, the center of his ethical code, nothing else seemed to matter. CE he is not, he's not randomly killing people just because. NE, not really, it's not evil for evils sake what he's doing is for the "greater good" at least in his mind. He's not of any good or nuetral allignment. IMHO.

Except his goals and actions following said goals, as anybody versed in political science could tell you, would only result in a dramatic increase in terrorist attacks on the United States.

Not if he had nukes.

I don't remember the movie at all, but probably because they understand that D&D "Lawful" doesn't just mean "obeys the law."

If, as Jim Hague says, the character is:
Jim Hague said:
methodical, well-organized and utterly ruthless. Looking to put the world in order his way, and damned be anyone who gets in his way. Possessed of a code of ethics (twisted), a certain degreee of honor...
then he would certainly fit within the category of D&D Lawful.

He isn't a vigilante, he's a soldier trying to protect his nation no matter the cost. Kind of like a SUper-Patriot.

Lawful Evil.

He was methodical, structured, and was working toward goals that applied more to a larger group than just himself.

Not if he had nukes.

Targetting civilian populations in revenge for acts committed by non-national, globalized terrorist groups would only result in a dramatic increase of the membership and number of said terrorist groups, as well as their determination, funding, equipment and support in every nation on the planet.

Of course, that's assuming that said act didn't start World War III.
