Patches fixes thing, it does not introduce new material, which is what the revised edition is about (probably as ordered by Mr. Lucas).

As far as I can tell these changes were decided on by WOTC. I think they're throwing in the EPII stuff to make you feel like you're justified in spending another 35.00$.

True, but you wouldn't ask for a new model in exchange for your current model.

True. But that's simply because I'm not asking for a new model. It's not like they're going to completely revamp the system. It's more like they are doing tweaks here and there. Why are they doing these tweaks? Because it wasn't done right the first time. And that's what would happen with any other product that wasn't up to snuff. Game or car.

I will buy the game. I have no doubts on that. It's just disheartening to see that they put what they obviously consider to be an inferior product and now I'm gonna get gouged twice for it.

A revised edition would be considered a brand new edition. If they want to simply correct the current rulebook, they can simply do so buy ordering a new printing, just as they did with D&D Player's Handbook (currently on its second printing).

And it's revised rules, not 2nd edition, so I don't think it is a new edition. And for the printing of PHB they went in and corrected what changes needed to be made before they started the second printing. So does that make the PHB a new edition...no it's fixing things that were messed up in the original and it's still considered 3E. The only difference with that and Star Wars is that they have to actually change mechanics because it wasn't play tested thoroughly the first time. And FYI this is no fault of mine yet I get stuck with the cost.

I agree with Wilde Karrde 100%. However, since the changes are supposed to be presented in a free pdf that owners of the original book can download, I think that qualifies as a 'patch' or 'fix'. I just hate sorting through all the changes and marking appropriate areas in my book.

That's cool then. I wasn't aware of this. At least they are giving people an out that do not want to spend money on the same product twice. As for me, the game whore that I am, I'll buy it. I also don't like flipping through pages of errata and updating the book. ;)

I'll buy it happily.

H:)ll, I've got 3 different Dungeon Master's Guides, 4 Player's Handbooks and 2 Monster Manuals. I've already got two sets of Star Wars RPG rules (D20 & WEG)... Why not another.

I will definitely be buying the RCR for Star Wars. Not really because I want Episode II stuff, though. I have been underwhelmed by the trailers, and I await AotC with trepidation. Anyone else cringe at the lack of chemistry/talent displayed by Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman in the "Forbidden Love" trailer? I pray it is a bad edit.

Basically, I really like that they are incorporating the feedback that they got from people on the boards and revising the rules that were unpopular. They could have done what most second printings do, and just incorporate the errata, but they went the extra step to improve the game.

Was it just so people would buy the game a second time? A cynic would agree, and I am sure that factored into the decision to put extra development time into the core rules rather than just publish an Episode II sourcebook. But given the choice of a revised core book versus buying another sourcebook, plus continuing to run with a bunch of cobbled up optional and homebrew rules, I much prefer the solution that WotC chose.

Yes, I'll buy it. I've already pre-ordered 3 copies for my group. From looking at the newest Star Wars Gamer, it looks like the changes are going to be more than cosmetic, or the additions for Episode II.

I never bought the original edition so I will buy the revised edition. I don't give a crap about Episode II material (Episode I was bad enough), but I want the new improved rules.

What he said.

I voted yes...barring some of the silliness in TPM I like the fall of the republic era...kind of like WWI or 1920's earth vs. the WWII feel of E4-6. It's not better, just different. Although I understand why they have not (there's not much info yet), I really wish that WOTC would put out a "republic era" sourcebook ASAP. The NJO era does not hold my interest much..

I bought the original SW book when it came out, but never ran the game and read little of the book and sold it not long after to a collector w/ some of my other stuff..my group did not care for 3E that much and we went to other games like Exalted ..well, I picked up WoT in November and liked the way D20 was presented in that game (much simpler than 3E),but my players know more about Jordans stuff than I by far..we all like SW but are not super huge fans who keep up on the goings on, so we decided to give SWD20 a try for something different and I just picked up the book again.

I'm looking forward to the revised rules and new information, and I'm hoping that they streamline the vehicle and ship to ship rules...(although I've heard that the "ships of the galaxy" book has a streamlined version as well?, is this true?) I'm also going to track down a copy of the WEG2ER rules to see what they were like(I had a15 year hiatus from RPG's and missed a bunch of good games).

OK, I'm done rambling :)

P.S. I just hope there's not nearly as much eratta needed for the revised book.

The impression I got from what I heard about the download is that it wasn't a "patch" but more of a document that would allow 1st ed. players to convert their characters over to 2nd ed.

And from what I heard about the changes they planned to make from character classes to combat, this might be more of what we are going to see.

Personally, I'm not made of money, so I'll stick to first edition. If nothing else, the book becomes fodder for my d20 stuff.

I assure you that REG is right (hey REG! I'm infesting more boards now!) in that the changes are quite extensive. For a bare-bones look, check out the January News Archive from my website for a list of just a few things that are going to be changed.

Lots of people seem to forget that they are creating this rulebook for people who haven't even played the game yet. I'm not going to get into this argument again, but I think that this revision is a good thing that proves that WotC listens to its consumers.

a yes for me also

I'll buy it!!

:(

I won't like it, but i'll buy it!

As for new additions to the rule book, they said in star wars gamer 9 that there is supposedly at least 50 new pages to the book, half of them relating to episode II, new starship combat rules (which the original rules stunk), new core and prestigue classes, revamped core classes, and more starships, vehicles, and aliens. Personally, I could care less about the episode II options, or any of the genre's for that matter, except New Jedi Order, which is by far the best of them all. I just use it as a generic system, use some of the standard races, and comebine some feats and equipment elements from Dragonstar to make it really cool.

But I'll buy it!

*another 40 bucks, why can't the star wars books be as cheap as the d&d books**sheesh*
