Symbol of Spell Loss?

From what I can tell this spell has infinite duration until triggered, no exp/material costs, and so therefore can be stacked and destroy spellcasters?

Am I missing something here?

Quoting from SC:

"The symbol remains active for 10 minutes per level or until it has erased fifty levels of spells."

So, it's not duration permanent.

Sorry, I meant to say "permanent until activation".

Though that does limit its potential somewhat, you could still carry 5 around on a piece of paper at no cost right?

Yes and no. It inherits from Symbol of Death, which states:

To be effective, a symbol of death must always be placed in plain sight and in a prominent location
A piece of paper in your backpack? Not a prominent location by any means.

One covering your tower shield? Maybe - depends on the DM.

The problem is that I'm a melee fighter in an arena tournament with spellcasters, one of whom I will be facing I can only hit around 5% of the time (illusions, greater blink, etc.)

I was thinking about asking the cleric to put several symbols on my armor and then wear a robe/cloak to cover them until the fight starts.

How many symbols do you think you could fit on a suit of armor?

Yes... but you'd need to figure out what qualifies as a "Prominent Location" - which, as a term not game-defined, means you need to check with your DM.

Were I the DM? I might let you get away with one on the front, one on the back. Maybe.

But then, do you really want opponents to be walking around with Symbols of Charming?

So basically what your saying is that there aren't any clear rules regarding symbol placement/how many you could fit in a given area and its basically up to your DM?

That's correct. There's a couple of other somewhat similar things that do have specific limits, but nothing that's clear for the Symbol line.
