Pendrake, now forty-five feet out judging from the slackness of the rope, dives beneath the water.[sblock=Pendrake]His perseverance pays off as, miraculously, his groping arm strikes something solid that suddenly grips him convulsively in return.[/sblock][sblock=Ngikhnit, Quozen]The night-eyed in the group spot a head breaching the surface perhaps fifteen feet closer to the shore than the point at which Pendrake dived, and no more than ten feet to the right of the rope.[/sblock]

Amid the commotion, the half-giant points to a spot in between Pendrake and the shore a a bit to the right. "Who is that?"

Recoiling his rope, Peladus peers in the direction the giant indicates.

Reaching for Peladus' rope, Quozen responds, "I can see him! Let me cast the line!"

The young wizard hands the rope over to Quozen without demur.

Pendrake grips for the hand and tugs on the rope, then if he has the groping hand, he will swim to the surface!!!

The force of the retreating water starts to lessen. Nevertheless, the secured rope pulls taut. Pendrake doesn't re-emerge.

Following Ngikhnit's pointing hand, the humans spot the bobbing head. For now, the man manages to stay above water, though he gets no closer to the shore.

"That's Medwyn!" says a guard. "Medwyn!"[sblock=Pendrake]Pendrake finds it's going to be more difficult swimming with one hand clutching the rope and the other a panicked guardsman. Though he kicks strongly and does his best to bring both of them to the surface, the guard's motions prevent much progress.[/sblock]

"Stand ready to pull." Midias 'orders' the guards as the rope starts to pull taut. "Either he has him any time now, or we will have to pull him in."
