Table?

We use a pair of folding tables. Put them together, and we get a 6x6 table. As the DM, I get one side and the players split the other 3.
The map easily fits in the middle, however, we've recently moved to projecting it on the wall. Even more table space.

I have high dreams to build a touch screen table. I do have the skills, it's just the money, and developing a table like that, that I can easily knock down and store...we play in my family room.

Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone. When it really comes down to it, it's just that the table isn't wide enough for all of us. We already use tv trays, they're really helpful for my laptop (I keep the DDI Compendium pulled up, ready for to look up any rules questions), and another player that uses his laptop at the gaming table. And then I, as the DM, have butted-up another small plastic folding "table" that's the same width as the actual table. It's just big enough for my screen and to keep a book, some notes, my dice and upcoming monster miniatures hidden behind.

I really like some of the cheaper solutions. Just a 4x8 plywood on some sawhorses might work out well. I was needing to buy a new set of sawhorses anyway. So that could possibly kill two birds with one stone.

I don't really have any carpentry skills. Or any time to take on a project. So I'm really just going for something simple and cheap.

Sam's club has a sturdy plastic foldout table that is 5' round for $100. it is the best thing we have ever used. It can hold a full sized map and still have room for books and such, and the best thing is everyone is the same distance from the map, no one at the end saying, "can you move my guy there... no the other way... behind the dude".

A few years back, I bought a very sturdy used wooden table (and 6 matching chairs) off of Craig's List. Of course, it was heavy, so I had to recruit my brother to help, as he has a pickup truck.

I play at the most epic table of all. My buddy built a table for DnD. The center of the table is cut out. It has glass over the hole with a massive grid on it. Underneath the glass are lights that light up the center. It's awesome.

Around the outside, there are 5 sets of dice boxes and an area for rolling your dice. That area is covered with velvet that is glued down. This leads too some cock-eyed dice and much table bumping to get it to fall the way we want. Much hilarity usually ensues.

At the head of the table, there is a ledge so the DM can lay out what he needs and a covered dice box to protect from the prying eyes of players.

Lastly, and most importantly, each spot has a light up cupholder. It's awesome!!!

I am going to be building a gaming table for my group here shortly. It is 5' wide by 9' long. it has a 12" raised border on 3 sides where the players sit (8 players total) and a 24" deep border on the side where the DM sits. in the center is a 3' x 6' area that drops down 3" in that space is a track that has a 36" by 36" square table mounted to it, we put the map, board or whatever we are playing on, on that board. Whoevers turn it is they can pull a little pulley line and move the board in front of them and then play their turn. This prevents anyone from being too far away from the board on their turn.

In addition, the 12" wide border is actually made up of 24" wide sections that can be lifted up to provide additonal storage for game resources underneath them.

I am also making an additional top that can be put on top of the whole table and be used as a regulation size ping pong table.
