Tabletop Aids

Interesting so far.

It seems that everyone uses has at least one game aid dedicated to initiative tracking.

I have also never heard of Tactiles before. I think I will google them.

END COMMUNICATION

Don't waste your time. They are currently out of production.

According to their web site:
Sorry, but we are temporarily sold out. One of our suppliers that performs two major steps in the production of Tact-Tiles is not able to continue and has forced us to find a secondary supplier. We have been unsuccessful so far in locating a new supplier that can do the job for a reasonable price. We are still looking, I will post updates to our supply problem here.

I apologize for the production delay,

Tom Belcher

Sucks too....I was trying to buy some for my new game room. :(

Mechanical Pencils...not only do they write, but invariably, they are all 6" long. Perfect for measuring 30' on a battlemat.

(the day we discovered this, there was great rejoicing)

When I DM, I use a huge columnar pad and use that to keep important stats on PC (hp,AC, pertinent skill checks made behind the screen). It also comes in handy with keeping track of initiatives and organizing combatants, but I like the deck of cards idea.

When I'm playing spellusers that have to prepare spells, I use index cards with stock sets of spells. For me, it's much faster to pick a set and tweek if we know something in particular is coming than to pick off spells from the big list every morning (especially at higher levels).

My brother used mah jong tiles to keep track of things when he DM, but they are a lot heavier than a deck of cards. :)

When I play I keep a laptop with good ole Notepad open for notes, statuses, etc, and a second copy of notepad open with my character on it, the "print" version of the character only reflecting permanent changes and being dm refference.

Fortunately where we play I can always keep it to the side with lid closed so it is out of the way not being a distraction.

Well, on that level, I should elaborate I keep a MS Word doc journal on my laptop to track the dates, unidentified treasure, monsters and CRs to give XP for, and major plot points discovered or improvised...

Keeping a journal of events, with both real world and in game dates and times, can be nothing short of invaluable.
