Take 10 on Spellcraft check?

I use the take 10 rule quite a lot. I think it is the way it was intended and find it works well.

However, last night, our 3rd level wizard bought some 2nd level scrolls to learn and copy into his spellbook. The check is DC15+spell level, which is DC17. He just said "I'll take 10".

This seemed a little easy. Anyone with a half decent INT score and some ranks in Spellcraft can make this check without rolling. Which may be the intention, I was just seeing what everyone else thought.

Yeah this the check to copy it into the spell book not to decipher the spell in the first place.

That is a Spellcraft check (DC 20 + spell's level) or via Read Magic spell (automatic).

Writing an already comprehended spell into one's spellbook should be easier (and realtively easy in the first place).

Same here, and I don't have any problem with taking 10 on Spellcraft to learn new spells.

I have seen 5th level wizards run up spellcraft check mods of +15 to +17 with little to no problem.

Most are getting a +2 synergy from 5 ranks Knowledge - Arcana. If the Character uses a +2 int modifier race (Grey Elves out of MM are LA +0) you get a Int of 20-21 with a 17-18 die roll at character creation.

8 ranks spellcraft, +2 syn +5 intelligence... no sweat.

Heck, I don't have an issue with a spellcaster taking 10 to read scrolls either, unless they are severe metagamers or something.
