Please take a quick look at this starting Avenger (Pursuing) and tell me if it's a crap build or not. Btw, had to use basic array 10,10,10,10,10,8 +22 points b/c its LFR.

Race: Human
Class: Avenger

Str 10 +0
Con 12 +1
Dex 16 +3
Int 12 +1
Wis 18 +4
Cha 8 -1

Feats: Fullblade, Leather
Skill Training: Acrobatics, Stealth, Thievery (background), Perception, Religion

This gets me d12+4 damage with an 18 AC (+3 religious armor thing, +3 dex, +2 leather).

Haven't really finalized the powers yet. Any thoughts on development down the road? Anything illconsidered?

As the latest batch of errata really affect the Avenger a lot, I suggest you go and read the document, especially for a LFR campaign.

The short of it is take the improved armor of faith feat instead of the Leather armor feat since Avenger no longer can combine Leather armor and Armor of Faith.

Ah, I see. I will definitely do that then. Seemed too good to pass up, which usually means something's off.

So, eh, this basically means that the guy gets AC 16 then.. not 18. I looked at Improved Armor of Faith briefly b/f just getting leather.. I figured +2 all the time was better than whatever bonus I temporarily got from AofF - wasn't that just a bonus when charging or something?

Armor of Faith and Improved Armor of Faith are only contingent upon what armor and shielding you are using (i.e., you can't be using any) and do not rely upon situationals such as charging.

So, with Leather Armor the AC would be 15 (2 Leather, 3 Dex). With Cloth Armor, it would be 16 (3 Dex, 3 Armor of Faith (the "religious armor thing")). And finally, with Improved Armor of Faith, it would be 17 (3 Dex, 3 Armor of Faith, 1 Improved Armor of Faith)

IRT weapon, I'd go with an Executioner's Axe or a Mordenkrad instead, as Brutal is quite helpful for a class so utterly dependent on the weapon die for your damage. Probably Executioner's Axe, as it's High Crit and you'll theoretically* be critting 2x as often as the other classes.

* - I haven't noticed this on mine, but you know the plural of anecdote isn't data.

I have read mixed reviews on Executioner's Axe vs Fullblade as it relates to the Avenger (plus, I already got a fig with a sword, haha), but I will give it some more thought. I agree that the extra +1 to hit seems less meaninful when you're rolling two dice every time and, as you say, the Brutal 2 is hard to beat.

The oath that's associated with Dexterity, I think.

Yeah...the Avenger in my game had a better than defender AC by reversing his WIS/INT and going Deva (+INT/WIS) so he started with 18 INT (+4) Leather (+2) Armor of Faith (+3) for a 19 AC at level 1. He picked up 2 weapon defense (+1), a double weapon with the defensive property (+1), Improved Armor of Faith (+1), and one or two other feats and/or items that escape my memory so that by 8th level he had a 29 AC with enhancement bonus and everything added in which was 2 points higher than our Paladin (27) wearing Plate and a large (heavy?) shield.

10 Base
+2 Leather
+2 Enhancement
+5 20 INT
+3 Armor of Faith
+1 Improved Armor of Faith
+4 1/2 level (8)
+1 Defensive (double weapon)
+1 Two-weapon defense
29 AC
