Talislanta

First Post
I just recently got Tal 4th edition, and I'd really like to play it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anyone in my area who's interested. Is anyone running an online Talislanta campaign I could join in on?

Your best bet would be to join the Talislanta mailing list on Yahoo. One of the fellas regularly ran a few IRC Talislanta games, and other folks would sometimes have a call-out for a game they were starting.

Talislanta is what got me into gaming, and it might explain why I've been fascinated with magic in particular. I remember, I must've been 8 or so when I saw the Naturalist's Guide in my local comic store. I didn't know what the heck it was, but I got it, and the Worldbook (My mom gladly payed for them, because she was a librarian, and always wanted me to read whenever I could). Then, that summer, at a sort of elementary school-level daycare, I ran a game, with no rules whatsoever. It was all just made up. Dang, that was fun. We were such munchkins.

Anyway, I have the new Tal 4th edition book, and it's a beauty, but I don't have time even for an online game. But I plan to run my next game in Tal, at least briefly, hoping the players will appreciate it. I also hope that my efforts to take some of the greater concepts from Tal and adapt them to D&D (like the magic system, and the limit of magical items), will be accepted well.

Good luck to you, though, in finding a game.

I'd love to see the Talislanta magic system converted to DnD...

DnD clone? Eh...

If by that you mean "Does it have non-human races in a demi-mideval/renisance type time period using swords and posessing magic", then yes, I suppose it.

Of course, that doesn't do Talislanta justice.

A very simple rule system (This is d20 folks... Not "D20" the brand, but a d20 rule system... you need one d20 to play the game... all rolls are made on the SAME single table. It's very easy), a really cool magic system (Which vaugly reminds me of the one in Ars Magica at times), a ton of new races (And no elves, dwarves, etc), some cool concepts related to the magic and history of the land, skill-based characters (as opposed to class-based), and has a good balance between "detailed" and "generic" information so that you can run campagins without much effort, or creating a ton of stuff from scratch, as you choose.

All bound up in a beautiful 500 page hardcover tome.
