Looks like I've found a new way to spend my time. Already sunk an hour into it, and I'm already 3rd level
Heh - well, it's not what I thought it was when I put it up, but I'm glad someone's getting enjoyment out of my link anyway! Even my mistakes bring joy to the world - I'm awesome!

The game could actually last indefinitely because someone has to make the move to start winning. Players could just march around the outer and middle region without end, gaining power and no one *has* to go for the win, and the win won't just happen.

Most other games, so long as you just play, will end and a winner will happen. But Talisman requires a player to feel confident enough in his character's power to move on through the Portal of Power. It's kind of an odd thing.
That why a limit on replacement characters is needed. Chaos Bloodbath's one life to live is a good idea if long games are a real problem. Part of that problem is sometimes folks trying to make sure every is having fun forget the game is competative. Taking the Crown of Command does not win the game, It makes killing off everyone else easy.

Every time we play, I scramble to get the monk. The other broken character, the prophetess, is arguably more powerful -- but I always play the monk with a bloodthirsty Mr. Rogers voice, and that never stops getting funny.

I think they fixed some of the rules conflicts in the new edition.

But yeah, in a competitive game, it's not uncommon for players to try to one up the other.

I don't remember the rules fights, but I do the 2-4 broken characters, and the fact that it always takes way too long.
My fav was always the centar, forget winning I just wanted to shoot people.

Ever tried Toad Rules? Its the wet and squishy version.
Every one is a toad.
start with Stength 1, Craft 1 gold 0, life 4
movement is 1 space, (optional roll dice 1-3= 1 space, 4-6= 2 spaces)
You can gain craft and strength as a regular character, should you live long enough.
You can only carry 1 pc of equipment
Armor and shields cannot be used, although you can hop under a helmet, for the same benifits that armor has.
you can ride a mount/mule for 1 turn before falling off - your next movement is 1d6
The only follower you can get is the princess.
You can never cast spells (except as seen below)

If you are cursed to become a toad, you can instead draw a random character and play it for 3 rounds, although its craft and strength are fixed by the card.

Most importantly once you lose all life, your out of the game.
Last toad to croak wins.

I always liked to play the monk in Talisman back in those old, old days. I can't remember why though!

Wasn't there an expansion that let you play a space marine, chainsaw warrior, and mad scientist? Oh GW, you were so awesomely crazy back in the day!

The monk could add strength and craft when attacking a str based monster or player.
it was just overpowering really.

yeah there were 4ish expansions: the 1st expansion, city, dungeon, and space. The last three had little sub-boards too play on. I only have the first 2.
