talking during combat

You shouldn't be allowed to tell another player what to do on their turn during their turn. When you do that it forces that players to listen to you. Yeah , it might save your life, but its not up to another player to play someone else's character to save another character's life.
In the example I presented my character was the senior ranking lawman, I was the character to be giving orders; this was metagamed during the character generation because I the player have the most rules mastery, with 2 players being pretty good & the 2 remaining being unlearnt. It was decided between the dm & I that my character was going to be the central glue to the story of a lawman collecting powerful friends & victims & they becoming deputies to deliver justice.

Anyway, whether the character has rank or not they are fully justified to even scream at their allies to hurry up and do something in combat, their lives are at stake. Whether the current character acts upon the request is another issue.

I would suspect that what you really are objecting to is the _Player_ telling the other _Player_ what to do rather than the interactions between characters. If this is what you mean then I agree wholeheartedly with you; but again I'd have to note, I am an emotional creature & if another players deliberate lack of coordination based soley upon their desire to prove their social independance resulted in the death of my character, I would act irrationally.

I think doing that makes you switch from a role playing game to a hack n slash board game.
...
Doesn't that venture into board game/ tactical team game territory.
You're implying that d&d doesn't or shouldn't cater to the above gaming style when I respectfully disagree. I love pulling out the mini's, wooden blocks & various tokens to play a squad level combat sequence - 3/4 of our time is spent roleplaying & this is the time for breaking loose.

Brief commands, replies, cries for mercy & taunts, even when it is not your turn? Yes please!
