Tam Fletcher: A Mandolin Playing Fighter From ULTIMATE NPCS: SKULDUGGERY

I mentioned (and shared a preview of) Nord Games' Ultimate NPCs: Skulduggery Kickstarter a couple of weeks ago. It's now in its final days, and they've sent along another preview from the 200-page book crammed with useful 5E NPCs. This is Tam Fletcher, a mandolin-playing fighter. Each NPC is included in the book at levels 1, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20.

The Kickstarter is already 400% funded, with 3 days to go. You can get a PDF for $15, a softcover for $20, or a hardcover for $35. The books are available for D&D 5E, Pathfinder, and Swords & Wizardry.

Thanks Cam! We are very proud of it. I'm actually fine tuning all the stat blocks for Generic NPCs (which were unlocked with a stretch goal) and I absolutely love thinking about how I'm going to be using these various NPCs in my Wednesday night game!

Hi Guys,

To Colin's point - we felt that instruments shouldn't be limited to Bards. As much as Tam may beg to differ, a Mandolin does not make you magical.

Thus the Entertainer background in the PHB. This is called thinking outside the box and I heartily approve. A warrior can also have the scholar background for example, which is equally awesome.

I'm a backer and can't wait to get my hands on this book!

I'll be picking this up and heading to Kickstarter now. Thanks for the post Morrus to keep us in the know.
Edit - backed!
One of the best books from the PF RPG to me was the NPC Codex....so this one, unlike a bestiary 5, has plenty of uses!

The fact that "Weapons, Armor & Items" is shown on both pages, and are not even the same, concerns me a little. Is this another one of those 3PP books that could have really used a good editor?

Why wouldn't I? As a DM, if I print an npc stat page why would I have to print multiple pages for same info?

I'm actually disappointed. Mechanically, in 5e NPCs are/can be different than PCs. NPCs abilities are often streamlined and they can have access to abilities that PCs don't have. I would have joined a kickstarter full of different NPC stat blocks that are different than PC stat blocks, but there's nothing here mechanically that I can create in 10 minutes on my own.

I think that is what your getting with the generic NPCs that were added as a stretch goal (and unlocked).

Personally as a DM this is much more useful to me since I never create PCs and it would take me a long time to do so. I can create a generic NPC in no time, but one with a story and PC mechanics would probably take me an hour or more. So this would be very useful.
