TangleWING bag???

The two celebrating players erupt in cries of dismay. The floodgates of argument open, drowning out the rest of the session.

I'm curious to know how other DMs might have ruled the matter.

"I'm the DM. Period. End of report. But I'd be happy to discuss it further when the session is over."

I'm surprised some munchkin rules monkey hasn't pointed out that there's no size limitation for Tanglefoot bags doing what they do -- that is, cut movement by half (even with a save).

In an out-of-game discussion of a DM call amongst (mostly anyhow) fellow DMs, pointing out a rule makes one a "munchkin rules monkey"? Geez.

Only if it's a munchkin rule.

Anyone suggesting that the official rule re tanglefoot bags be followed -- a rule that implies Tarrasques can be slowed to half-movement by a successful hit by a tanglefoot bag -- is a munchkin rules monkey, no ifs, ands, or buts.

No one has done that here -- a fact for which I am grateful!

Now, I must depart. The foolish "y" in your name is hurting my eyes.

For anything huge or bigger it should be a free action to use str to escape. It's really just sticking their leg to the floor, not the whole body.

No, it doesn't. You just make it clear at the moment- that it is a cool idea, and you (the dm) will allow it to work this time, but it will not work in the future.

Players that I've seen typically hate the "it worked once and now the law of physics have rearranged themselves so it doesn't work anymore" copout. And I have to admit...it is a copout. Better to not let it work from the beginning.

Besides- as word gets out about it, and if there are that many dragons in a campeign to worry about this tactic becoming regular, you just have them go fry the sources of the bags and have tactics against it.

Agenda for the Annual Dragon's Board Meeting (all chromatic dragons should attend):

1) Key note speaker: Tiamat

2) Seminar: "No More Dragon Hoard Lock Boxes! Top investment plans for your hoard of gold!"

3) Discuss the controversial Tanglefoot Bag Issue.

4) Lunch. Catered by Elves.

Did someone say Munchkin Rules Monkey?

"Tarrasques"? "Tarrasques"?!?

Is that the PLURAL form I see? I'd like to point out that, "by the rules," there is only ONE Tarrasque.

(;) to everyone but Forrester)

Also, I don't think it sets a "dangerous precedent" if a given action only works upon rolling a natural 20.

It really depends on the size of the dragon. If the dragon is huge or larger, then quite frankly, I see it this way:

You are walking down the street when someone spits a freshly chewed wad of bubble gum on you. Does it constrict your movement in any way?

If the dragon were of such a size to be confounded by a normally-sized tanglefoot bag, then I could see it working possibly. However, if the dragon were sufficiently large, it shouldn't even slow him down.

EDIT - I just checked a few facts:

1) A tanglefoot bag is the size of a belt pouch! Tell me that any alchemical goo in something that size will affect a huge creature. Yes, I know size limitations are not mentioned in the rules for it, but frankly plausibility prevails to me here.

2) If the save is made, the creature still moves at half-speed. This is still enough for a dragon to fly with.

3) A strength check versus DC 27 is tough, but still quite doable for a dragon of adult size or larger.

Bottom line - if this dragon was adult or larger, chances are your PC's have no leg to stand on.

Mmmmmm . . . elves! I take it there will be both white meat and dark meat?

As a member in good standing of B.A.D.D., I will be sure to attend :).

catered by elves, or caterers serving elves?

It's like in the Resturant at the End of the Universe...

"Good day sir... I will be your Elf for the meal... Would you care for some choice cuts of my thigh? I'm very tender..."
