"Five thousands o' glinty? An' in service o' folk worth servin', no less. Call that 'greed at on my end. Rurik? Ye game?"
Rurik looks up from his mug, first at Sturm, then at the brothers. "Aye, Rurik Axebender, at yer service, an' indeed I'd be honored ta 'sist tha Jasperfists, er die tryin'. Alra'y kilt me one demon... what's another, right?"

Sturm said:
"Ye'll be along then? Good word, that. Mind if'n I nominate ye redeemer o' disputes and decider o' things what need decidin' 'ere from startin'? Not tha' it kills me not takin' orders, but tryin'n 'ave some big ol' group o' wags get things figured makes me 'ead 'urt twice vexin'."
Rurik looks again at the Jasperfists, hooking a thumb out to indicate Ishmael, who by now has taken the third seat at their table. "Aye, this'd be the smart one. We're with 'im. Any'ow, yer brother and yerself're welcome ta sit 'ere, if ye want."

Rurik stands up for a minute, and calls across the bar to Officer Vagan.

"Off'cer Vagan, I truly wish ye luck with the bandits, an' regret me legs're too short ta be much o' 'sistance. Chennet' keep ye well."

Vagan clears his throat. "Will you be needing me any more?" he asks, shifting his weight from his heels to the balls of his feet and back again. "If you think of anything else, I'm stationed at the watch station on the corner of Livingstone and Broadstroke."

It takes a moment before Jaan realises that the Officer has just said something, then another to recall what it was.

His attention had been completely taken by trying to follow the conversation between the dwarves. He had never had any experience of them before, and found the gruff directness and wordplay fascinating, once he had worked out what they were saying. Half of it, he suspected, was intentionally obscure. It make the memory of his own stumbling words the more jarring. He knows his delight is childish, but doesn't care. There is time enough to become world weary and jaded. And he's deeply disappointed that they will be soon going separate ways.

Then he realises that he has not, despite the promise of glinty, glory and good company, once considered joining them. In that, he finds reassurance. I have set my feet on the right path.

He returns his attention to Vagan.

"Livingstone and Broadstroke. I'll remember.

"There are some things that I think should be done before leaving. I think we will be away at dawn tomorrow. Tell me where and when we can collect the map."

ooc: Shopping. Purchase a ranged weapon. I was hoping for a composite longbow (+1str), but they are expensive. So probably a crossbow for now. Some potions of heal as we might not have a cleric. What are the odds of picking some up from the House of the Greenman (Jaan's deity). And a horse, if possible (I'm assuming that the woods lie some distance from the city and cover quite a large area.)

Visit the Merchants (IC?) and hopefully, some Gathering of Information if Joe can recommend someone. Cost? Finally, drop off at the guard house and collect the map.

OoC:Just got off of work, going to sleep, back at 2PM calif time or so.
that was 5,000 GP in total, btw...just to clear things up.

". . . . the most hideous bodies, mut'lated beyond belief. We searched and searched,but...n'thin did we e'er find 'cept fer the bodies. Some in the Halls have 'eard a hissin sound late at night, and a wailing shriek. Still, thet leaves n'thin fer us ta kill,n'thin ta do ta end this . . . We 'ave been authorized to offer th' promise o 5,000 Gold Marks, along with the eternal gratitude o the Stonepike family if'n ya choose to answer our callfer it."

"Well, that'sa mighty fine offer, an' the danger seemed ta be great as well . . ." Thurgan mused. "I'd be interested in helpin' out as well, if ya'll have me."

Turning to the others at the table, Thurgan spoke, "I 'spose that goes fer ya as well. I didna get ta see ya in action much at the monk place, but ya seemed like good folk. I'd be interested in joinin' up an' helpin' where I can."

"Hm...," says Velbrik. "Now that does sound interesting. But I wouldn't like to leave anyone in the cold," he continues, addressing Troi and Jaan, "though if you think you're well-enough prepared already, I could offer the wand, at least. Of course, it may be that you," Velbrik turns to the dwarves, "may prefer aid from your own people."

Jaan considers Velbrik for a moment. He is a man at home outside of the city, Jaan would guess. A useful ally to have.

"Of course we would be glad to have you, but we have to chose the path that seems right for us. There will be no hard feeelings here. I wish you, all of you, luck on your task.

"I don't know what wand you refer to."

Jaan glaces at Troi, suspecting that that comment was directed to him.

"It is a generous offer."

"The wand is one we bought about a week ago with pooled funds after fighting off one of the orc attacks. It's a healing wand; it has twenty charges left."

Velbrik considers for a moment. "Hm. There is a fairly large group heading to help the dwarves already, and only two of you. While I'm sure you're competent enough, it's the numbers I'm thinking about - a band of highwaymen against two, you see."

"Mine thanks, Rurik and Sturm." Sir Ishmael smiled warmly. "Should dispute need arbitration, I offer mine wisdom. Should the way be unclear, I offer mine guidance. And should injury come upon us, I offer healing" The halfling patted the divine-magicked wand at his belt.

"Do we wait for any others?" Sir Ishmael asked the party "Brothers Jasperfist, can thine legs carry thee to travel? If thine kinsmen are in peril that we must make haste toward thine home"

Jaan is silent for a moment. Velbrik's generousity leaves him speachless for a moment. All he can do is nod. He finally finds his voice.

"The lack of a healer with us has bothered me. But equally, you will be walking a path with its own share of dangers.

Jaan casts around for something he could offer in return. But he has nothing of value, other than the clothes he wears and the weapons that he carries and a handful of gold - not nearly enough to adequetly compensate Velbric for the wand.

"I am hoping that if do this right, we will not have to take on the whole band ..."

ooc: Do you have to be able to cast the type of spell contained in the wand to be able to use a wand? In this case a cleric or such.
