Velbrik blinks. "Well, it's not really mine, anyway. It's been passed around by several people over the last couple days; I just ended up with it when we decided to come back here. And I'm fairly wealthy, anyway; the monks rewarded us almost embarassingly well."

"But...hmm. I might as well come along with you fellows. They," he says, tilting his head towards the dwarves, "seem pretty well-off in regards to help. And you're right - this bandit thing doesn't seem quite right. So what was the plan?"

Jaan smiles broadly. Perhaps the Greenman walks with me. Perhaps not. But this is what it must feel like. He looks around then gets to his feet.

"Lets take a table and talk." {1} Asuming the others agree, they settle themselves around one of the empty tables. Velbrik's table if it is free.

"It seems to me that the first thing the Merchants would have done would be add a couple of guards to the wagons. It didn't work obviously. What else have they tried? What was the result? Elves are not known for being stupid and obvious. Nor are women. I would like to get an better idea of what we are up against. I think we should talk to the Merchants.

"I also think that a little fishing for information around town would be a worthwhile investment. I have no skill in that area, but there are those who do. I was thinking of asking Joe to recommend someone. It might even be better if we don't do it ourselves.

"That should give us a better idea of how to proceed."

{1}ooc: Troi and Jaan are at a bar, so I kind of imagin Velbrik is standing, having dumped his stuff by a table.

A young human woman walks into the room smiling from ear to ear, "Greetings one and all, Ioleta Gerrich here. I'm looking for any of the crew who recently came from the Monastery of St. Feragon."

She strides fully into the room, settling her cloak about her. She shrugs the pack from her shoulders and heaves a sigh of relief. The seams are practically bursting, the pack looks pretty heavy. "Where might I find those doughty souls?"

Velbrik nods to Jaan. "Yes, the merchants look like our best bet for right now. I think you mentioned setting an ambush? We definitely ought to find out what they're attacking primarily, so as to make ourselves a better target."

Velbrik turns as the woman walks in. "Just a second, Jaan, I think she's addressing me." He calls out, "Greetings! I am Velbrik, and I recently returned from the monastery. Troi, Thurgan, Sturm, Ishmael, and Rurik are here as well," he says, gesturing about the room, "but Felix, Kirin, Thale, Telerin and Aranel have not returned yet; probably caught up in some business in the city."

The halfling knight clad in a ragged cloak of blue nods in greeting to the woman. "I am Sir Ishmael of the Order of the Wooden Sword. Why dost thou desire to meet those who aided the monks of that monastery?"

It sounds like interesting times at the Monastry. Once Velbrik has finished, Jaan picks up where they left off.

"Troi suggested that approach. I considered it too, but I have my doubts about it." He goes on to explain his thinking. {1}

"That's why I wish to find out a little more about the bandits before we make any plans.

Jaan glances at Velbrik's bow.

"I was hoping to get a bow like that before we leave, but they are a little too expensive for me at the moment. I think a crossbow will do for the moment, however.

{1}ooc: too lazy to write it out again. :( see above: #153-6.

Sturm regards the woman with confusion. "Mons'trie o' Saint Feragon, that's us right?" He looks over to Rurik for confirmation, then turns to the woman to see what she has to say.

Grumbling something under his breath, a human with his wolf entered the bar. Announcing himself as Telerin Sathalos, he wandered in, noticing Sturm and many of the others. Then, he heard Sturm's mentioning of the Monastry, the Druid and his wolf walked over.

"Something happening, my good sir Dwarf?" Telerin asked with a smile as Whitefang went over to sniff him.

Aranel had slipped in through the door behind Telerin, hopefuly unnoticed but probably not. Announcing herself quietly she followed Telerin, it looked like he'd found some of the others from their last 'adventure'.

"Good day." she greeted them all and sat herself down. She'd been thinking a lot and had come to the conclusion that she was done with the wilderness. She'd come to the city for a reason (damned if she could remember what it was now). She looked to her friend and the wolf and wondered how to explain it to them...

Again she lapsed back into the thoughtful silence that had consumed her for the past few days..or weeks? Aranel didn't keep very good track of time, day was day night was night, they all blurred into one another...

"There are some things that I think should be done before leaving. I think we will be away at dawn tomorrow. Tell me where and when we can collect the map."

ooc: Shopping. Purchase a ranged weapon. I was hoping for a composite longbow (+1str), but they are expensive. So probably a crossbow for now. Some potions of heal as we might not have a cleric. What are the odds of picking some up from the House of the Greenman (Jaan's deity). And a horse, if possible (I'm assuming that the woods lie some distance from the city and cover quite a large area.)

Visit the Merchants (IC?) and hopefully, some Gathering of Information if Joe can recommend someone. Cost? Finally, drop off at the guard house and collect the map.

Vagan waves his goodbye before leaving the tavern. "Just swing by the guardhouse- I'll leave the map there. Tell them I sent you and they'll give it to you."

ooc: You can buy whatever's within your price range (the merchants, as has been said, may provide horses). It looks like the potion may not be needed, but if so, I think there was a question about by-the-faith discounts buried in some old discussion thread; I think the answer was "no," but I'll look it up. The merchants would be IC, and any information you gain there is above and beyond and Gather Information checks (which have no GP cost associated with them and take 1d4+1 hours per check)
