(Tavern) City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn VI

Calamar the Dark emerges from the room that Cain had left some hours before and moved to the bar. It would still be hours before the markets close and a spot of tea would hit the spot.

He looked across the room to see Sparrow engaged in a lively dance with a fair lady and then drew his attention back to the bar, where his cold icy lavendar eyes fell upon Cain.

"Haven't I seen the last of you little thief," he sneered?

Cain winks at Calamar. "No one heeds the words of a coward. Your worst insults will only amuse any of us now- like a court jester. Or have you summoned the courage to follow me outside?"

Cain has already finished eating. He puts out his pipe and motions towards the front door. If Calamar acoompanies him, he will exit the Red Dragon. Otherwise, he will arrange for a private room overnight.

Fant re-enters the common area from the back room and scans the tavern. Robillard dancing, his hangers-on by the fire, Calamar and Cain hopefully making arrangements to go into a dark alley somewhere and come back short a wizard. Fant sighes and asks Joe for a glass of wine. She had lost her temper back there to some degree, and that was unfortunate. It seemed to have worked out for the best- extra gold and a situation she didn't have to deal with any more. A few more hundred ennies and she'd be able to get her hands on a suit of plate mail.

She takes a sip and allows herself a brief moment of melancholy staring into her wine. She, who was born and raised in a castle (albiet a relatively small one) in the middle of her ancestral lands (again, albiet relatively modest holdings), of a bloodline that ran back hundreds of years, reduced to haggling with a hopped-up gnome over what wouldn't have struck her as table scraps before now. She squares her shoulders.

All right, moment of melancholy over.

"I have no doubt that I can not trust you to be fair in a fight, given your nature, but I will have satisfaction for your threat to kill me," said Calamar in even cool tones.

"I head to the beach so that our duel may be conducted without the attraction of the law and others. You may bring a second if you wish," he pauses for a moment, "it suddenly occurs to me that someone of your limited mind may not know what that is. Someone to negotiate on your behalf. I await you little coward."

OOC, follow me here, unless you wish to live

OOC Attention judge running the Inn of the Red Dragon

I have set up a link to fight this Cain in an open and fair fight on the beach, away from the city and its touchy, if undefined laws, and he attempted to back stab me in the threashold of the Inn of the Red dragon. I am moving this hear because he never made it to the beach.

(Duel)Duel between Calamar the Dark and the Rogue Cain :) - (Needs Judge and seconds)
Calamar heads to a secluded spot on the beach and goes over the list of spells he has memorized in his head. He has already planned his actions over and over in his mind, every movement of this little rogue he knows. He stands confidently in the light of the setting sun. Just enough light to see by and be effective. He awaits only for the troublesome and rude little rogue.

Cain follows Calamar out the door. "You want seconds?" thinks the halfling, "He're how many seconds you've got: 5, 4, 3..." As he crosses the threshold, Cain draws his shortsword and charges the wizard. "2, 1..."

OOC: Cain doesn't wait for the beach. He attacks Calamar in the street as soon as he leaves the Red Dragon. Since Calamar doesn't seem to be expecting it (and didn't describe any precautions taken enroute to the beach) maybe I can roll bluff vs sense motive to get a surprise round?

OOC, Actually, it was stated in the back room that I keep an eye out for you at all times, whether you come through the front door, a window, or just in general and my hesitation and statment about not expecting you to fight fairly suggests that I continue to not trust you and be prepared for your surprise attack.

Calamar's last stated action was that if you approach me or move to attack me I cast a Ray of enfeeblement on you and that I also keep at least five feet distance between yourself and myself. I fear that you have doomed yourself now though, there is no fighting within the inn or the city proper from what I understand. By attacking me in the threshold of the door, you have just doomed yourself to prison or worse.

Enter Yarrog...

A small figure covered with a dark green hooded cloak enters the Inn. Most would think it a child due to it's size, but the small crossbow and cases of bolts across it's back prove otherwise.

The small figure tiredly makes it's way to the bar, head hung low. After a little bit of difficulty climbing a bar stool, the figure places some coins on the bar and mutters something to the bartender.

While he waits for the drink to arrive he scans the tavern taking stock of all he sees. He pulls back his hood revealing his rusty brown scaled skin and glowing yellow eyes. A holy symbol to Mongrel is evident through the front of the small figure's cloak.

"Greets to you. I Yarrog. I have wander far and see many thing. Now Yarrog tired, finish drink and help you."

quote from Cain
OOC:
Let me clarify who I meant by "he" , since it might have been ambiguous:
As soon as CAIN crosses the threshold, CAIN draws his sword and charges CALAMAR, who is already out in the street.

I know that you stated in the Croc hunt thread that Calamar had a readied action to cast Ray of Enfeeblement. Realize that you cannot ready an action before initiative is rolled, nor can you maintain a readied action while walking down the street etc.

ooc, Um, yes I gathered who you where talking about, but regardless of whether I can have a readied action, something that is frowned upon, not forbbidden, out of combat, I can still keep an eye on you so I know where you are.

In a surprise round, your opponent, me, can not have knowledge of where you are, other wise it comes down to initiative. At most you are going to be lucky to beat me in Initiative and get first attack before the guards drag you to jail. You will not get a surprise attack.

Our fight is happening in the street instead of on the beach, but it still isn't happening INSIDE the Red Dragon, so I'm not sure why you are reposting everything here in this thread.

Frankly, I'm not sure why you created the duel thread either, instead of just fighting in the Croc Hunt thread. At any rate, the duel thread has already been created, so why don't we resolve the fight there?
