Tandi watches as the newcomer enters the tavern. Though she has no idea who he is, most everyone else seems to. Her vision finally clearing, with the help of her breathing techniques, she stands to address the dwarf. "Hello Mr. Stonebender, my name is Tandi. Tandi d'Lune. I appreciate your generosity in providing us with another round of drinks. I was trained at a temple of Russna in the art of Swift Thought. I have no one to vouch for my trustworthiness, though I suspect few of us actually do. I profess to know little about you or your operation, but I am certainly interested in seeing new things, such as this festival of yours. I would gladly join your caravan as a watcher." She then looks at some of her quickly made friends. "And hopefully some of my new friends will as well."

Tandi then sits back down, letting the others decide whether this offer is worthy of their attention.

A stately, well-dressed dwarf walks into the tavern. He calls out to Joe "Drinks all around, on me Joe." Joe nods knowingly and replies "Sure thing Ingus." Drinks are passed around as the dwarf surveys the grateful crowd.

The dwarf quiets everyone down, finds a good place to address the crowd, and says "In case you don't know it, I'm Ingus Stonebender*. I've got a caravan of goods heading to Covington for the Festival of Halina*, and I need to hire a few hands to help me watch over it. The trip will last about seven days, after which you will be paid 200 gold for your services. I ask that you stay with my caravan and help guard it at night while we are at the festival, and I will pay you another 10 gold per night. During the day, you are free to partake in the festivities of the festival, as long as you are able to help guard the caravan at night. The festival should last about 7 days though I may stay a few more, after which I will require your escort back to Orussus, where I will pay you an additional 200 gold."

OOC: I'm looking for a group of about 6 players. Preferably non-evil, but not necessary. A somewhat balanced group would be nice. There will be some combat, but there will be plenty of roleplay opportunities. He will take the six people he feels good about taking, but I'll encourage everyone to try. If you don't get in this one, there will be another opportunity coming shortly after this.

Knowledge rolls (I'm trusting you to do this on your own)
*Ingus Stonebender, KN: Local roll of 15+
[sblock]Ingus Stonebender is a merchant based in Orussus who sells fine metal crafts, weapons, armor, and occasionally gems. He is known to travel a lot, and brings in quality merchandise if he doesn't make it himself.[/sblock]*Festival of Halina, KN: Local or History 10+
[sblock]The Festival of Halina is held in Covington each year to celebrate the harvesting of the fall crop. Merchants and people come from all over to join in this festival.[/sblock]

"Howdy Mr. Ingus. Sunny Perriwinkle's my name... guading caravans, well, that's a pretty good game. I'm up for it, and have quite a few skills to bring to the table."

Sunny Perriwinkle appoaches Ingus, hand extended, looking to shake it.

"As for why you should hire me, well.... I'm handy with my sword -- and a very big sword it is too! -- and have other, well, skills.."

Here Sunny prestidigitates an illusion of a tiny ogre upon his palm, which hopes up and down and bows to Ingus.

"Aha! Another caravan heading out! And this one doesn't sound fishy at all! I am intrigued, good sir." The gnome in the blue cloak dashes away his illusion into points of floating light again and then sends them into motion about his head. He hops off the stool and strides over to the dwarf. Bowing deeply he says, "Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons the Third, illusionist extraordinaire, at your service." Puffing out his chest he adds, "My father is an exotic gem dealer in Fallon, perhaps you've heard of him? Fimbus the Second? He's quite well known out there, though I suppose none of these folks know of him." Here Fimble pauses and looks thoughtful. "I'd like to take you up on your offer, but how to prove my trustworthiness to you, I'm not quite sure... Me being from fairly far away, nobody really knows me around here, so I don't think anyone can vouch for me. But, well, you can ask me any question and I'll try to answer as best I can. As a merchant, you can probably pick out a badly improvised lie, so that could be my test. What say you?"

Vargo,

Vargo slowly stumbles back into the bar, his long absence most likely unnoticed by all those around him - to be expected, as he never really had a chance to make any friends the first time through. He silently pulls himself into a booth, orders an ale, and observes the scenery.

"Greetings Master Stonebender. My name is Lasair, and I would be honoured to aid a noble dwarf with such a task--keeping people safe is its own reward, and I have no need of these gold coins you offer if you would like to keep them and use them for other things. If not, I can keep them with what little I have left and see that they go to a worthy cause. Tell me, who is this Halina who has a festival? Is she the Clanmistress of Clan Covington? Can I meet her? She must be a lovely person if people want to have a festival for her."

Adventure Hook (Continued)

Rystil Arden said:
"Tell me, who is this Halina who has a festival?"
Ignus replies "Why, Halina is the goddes of fertility. She blesses the farmers with good crops and fertile soil. The festival celebrates her blessing the farming town of Covington with a successful harvest. Many merchants, such as myself, make our way there to join in celebration and sell our wears. Usually quite profitable, so I'm taking quite a bit, hense why I need a guard."

OOC: I'm giving people time to respond. I will eventualy reply to individual greetings, but until I will answer questions. So don't feel slighted if I don't respond to you right away and I do to someone else.

No sooner had the door shut behind the frail-looking man in the leather armor embossed with leaves, than it opened again for an elf who was beaming from ear to ear. He was dressed in a pale blue cloak and a broad-brimmed hat, and called a greeting to one of the barmaids. As she approached, he gave her a warm and friendly hug, the nearby patrons observing that he carried an oversized walking staff in his left hand. The barmaid seemed taken aback by the forwardness of the gesture, until he loosened his embrace so that she could stare at his face. She was then taken by a flash of recognition, and they were soon smiling and talking as old friends.

She lead him by the hand to the center of the bar, and yelled, "Hey! Look what I found! It's that elf with the goofy eyes!" The elf and several of the staff roared with laughter as he gave Joe a friendly wave. It was then that many of those who had never seen him noticed his unusual eyes. The pupils were black and the irises green, but the rest of his orbs had a decidedly gilded tint, almost as if they were made of metal instead of flesh. Some of the customers did a double take, expecting him to start feeling his way around as would one of the blind. But the odd-looking elf looked around and focused on things as well as any of them, and they shrugged it off.

As Joe extended his hand, the elf gave it a firm shake, and in a firm voice said, "Joe Smith! How wonderful to grace your fine establishment once again! And..." (here he gave a quick nod of his head to Joe) "...in accordance with the long-established custom of this fine hall, allow me to introduce myself. I am callled Oirhandir, and I travel by land and by sea. I am handy in many things. I know the way of a ship, the way of a bow, I can cast some meager spells, and can play some gentle music on my chimes. I wish to travel near or far, to go where I have never been." Bowing, he concluded: "Elf for hire, at your service."

"Ohhhhh, so Halina is an Astral Parasite like Michael's girlfriend Sela. Michael says that Astral Parasites wish to help people live better lives in this land, so I will certainly aid in this endeavour."

Fang Flemflinger, a rather large orc, stepped forward and accepted the drink with a smile. "Greetins to ya Ingus. Me name be Fang, and I be lookin fer work. If ya hire me ya won be disappointed. I'm good wit deh blade, an me heart is stout. Honest too. Nothin shady wit ol'Fang. Many contrasts from run-a-deh-mill orcs. An me looker too.""

Fang smiled his ugly two-tooth smile and waited for the dwarf's reply.
