The elf eyes Garrit for a few seconds, then shrugs as if resigned to his fate. "It was Luthiel" he says, louder this time but still in a quiet tone. "I came here seeking whatever adventure may come my way. Good day to you all, but I do not know any of you. I prefer no company to that of strangers." He sits in silence a moment, then mutters to himself (just barely on the edge of hearing for those with keen ears) "Yet I may have to rely on one of these strangers if what I have heard is true." With that, he stands, walks over to the table, and sits st an empty space with a half-smile on his lips that does not reach his eyes. "For all that I am a little standoffish from time to time, yet a bit of company may serve me well right now. Tell me, what do you know of the inn and its patrons? And what of yourselves, are you seasoned adventurers, or are you, like myself, here on your first foray into the wider world?"

Devlin looks at Cryndo, the first to speak to him, then to Garrit. After a long pause, he salutes them with his mug.

"Not much to tell about my journey other than it was incomplete and unrewarding," Devlin offers before surveying the group over a long pull of his drink. "You look like you might have a story or two in you, though."

Jasper looks up at the men that just entered the tavern. After looking around for a while, he begins to speak. "So glad that you could join us today. I'm hoping we can all find a journey to go on soon, for I feel as if I need to get out of this tavern already. I want to be out on the road again, exploring the different woods, plains, cities, and people we are sure to meet. How about you three? What are your passions? Mine are books, in case I haven't told you yet." And with that, Jasper eyes his new friends waiting for a reply.

Luthiel pulls out a silver piece and begins doing small "magic" tricks with it (Sleight of Hand +7) almost absentmindedly as he replies "Well, Jasper, I've been honing my skills to be able to go where I want, undetected, and get what I need." With this, he looks expectantly at the other new arrival.

A young man, just budding into adulthood opens the door to tavern and looks around at all the patrons. Seeing a cluster of what looks to be fairly seasoned adventurers, he approaches them somewhat nervously.

"Uh... hello... ! I- well, no not me, I'm too young of course, I'd never try to... Um... my master, he needs some, well... help. Aye, he needs some... well, he called them adventurers, y'see, and so I thought you all might... be the type..."

The boy looks down at his feat, fearing perhaps that he had offended the group. Then suddenly he looks back up.

"Aye. He needs help obtaining an artifact from a... a grave, no, a crypt, a ruin? ... A ruined crypt. That's it. But first... well... You all, y'know, you look like a strong group, but I... well, my master, he..."

Again he falls into silence. Suddenly regaining his courage, he shouts, "He wants to test you first!"

Cringing from the fury of the group, he looks down and away. Looking up and seeing no anger on the faces before him he adds, "See... he wants able-bodied men, so... it makes sense of course, to test them... don't want to send weaker... eh, well, not to say that you're weak! He just... eh... So... yes, an artifact from a ruined crypt, but first a test. And of course, there'd be payment, of course, of course... So... Any.. one?"

"How much?" says Malen, seemingly interested in something besides ale for the first time since he stepped through the door. "And what's in this crypt?"

Luthiel watches the boy approach the table. He looks slightly confused by the words the boy speaks, but then his face clears and he says "Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but this does indeed sound like the sort of thing I've been waiting for. I think you may well be able to count me in for the trip. However, I have a few questions. First of all, who is your master? Second, what is the nature of the test? For, look you, I have no great skill in arms; it is rather for my skilfulness that I may be of use. And third, what is the nature of the reward?" Then he sits attentively, waiting for the response of the others as well as the answers to his questions.

"Well, since this is the kind of thing I came here for, I'd like to talk to your master or whoever to find out more about this expedition. But why don't you sit down first and have a drink?" He offers his seat to the young man. "I am Garrit Kelspire, Paladin Knight-Errant of Hyrag, at your service."

The boy seems blustered by the bombardment of queries. Then an awkward smile lights on his face, his demeanor relaxing greatly, when Garrit offers him a drink. He sits down at the table with the group but waves off any drinks.

"I uh... well! I admit I was a bit... well, afraid that you tough guys would get offended and... er... aggressive when I said my master didn't trust in your abilities... Guess I was wrong!" He motions tipping a hat to Garrit. "Thank you, but I'm not supposed to drink on the job. My master... he has ways to tell. And... his punishments are... severe..."

"Where's the crypt? I uh... I don't really know. It's near here... I think. Not too far, anyway. A day away? Um... maybe three. I don't know. And the artifact... I have no idea. He just told me... that it was something powerful, yeah, just powerful, and it's an artifact, and... uh... that's all. The test, it's... on his land, near his tower, dangerous, evil creatures. You'd have to fight them. Y'know, to show you could handle things... in the crypt... right? I'm not sure, but I think the crypt... It's got traps and such, dangerous stuff, so you might be more useful in that case. Not to say that you aren't useful, of course! I- I'm just not really sure. Reward... reward... He said something about paying you some before and lots after... he didn't say how much though."

Hoping that he had gained their interest, the apprentice stands up and says, "I... well, I really can't answer your questions, only my master can... s-so... if you want, you could follow me? To his tower? It's just outside of town."
