OOC[sblock]as a general aid to DMs can people pretty please put a link to their characters in their sigs? Or at least include one in your post when "applying" for a job at the red dragon? Its a bit of a hassle to keep going back and forth searching through the character thread to get an accurate look at what Petra is seeing.[/sblock]
"All right!" Petra stands at the table and thumps it with her mug to get everyone to stop talking for a moment, then fixes Zaeryl with a cold gaze. "I'd rather prefer that if one of you gets killed out of the ring it be because of my master's problem, not because you don't have the sense or the courtesy to stop insulting people when it starts to piss someone off. It sounds like you are uncomfortable with our practices in Earling anyway, so I would say this employment is not for you. Now," she turns slightly from him and gives a very strong impression of erasing him entirely from her consideration, "the banking of your purchase gold is quite traditional in earling and you can contact them to repurchase yourself at any time. That is why I arranged the contracts in this way, so that if you were unsuccessful you could go home with no losses. If you wish to spend part of the money and then are not successful.... I personally would be willing to make you a loan under those circumstances, or repurchase your equiptment from you, and a successful gladiator can earn himself some money in the pits by betting well, or even recieve gifts of some value. I have no intention of seeing any of you trapped in the Pits against your will, this is just the legal method by which we must get you there.
"Two of the fallen gladiators died without heirs, so I have taken over their equiptment for my master's new stars. I will be able to provide some servicable and attractive armor, and I believe there is a masterworked rapier that Fast Fanter left behind. As for the precise plan, we do wish to introduce you only as new gladiatorial stars, so that even our own people will not spread rumors of your true purpose while in their cups. If one of you truely cannot fight but can convince me that you will be very good at finding things out, I have considered a couple of options for bringing you to the arena but keeping you out of the ring for a week or so."
She considers a few of the other questions that had been peppered forth. "A gladiator is always given time to rest up and heal before his next fight, so how many fights you would have depends on how well you do in them. We will be giving you as much face time as reasonable to build up your stature, so perhaps three in a week if all went well. You can be introduced as individuals, or two of you could fight together if you can do that well."
"Now, before this goes any further, lets narrow this down. I have been authorised to hire three people, maybe four if there is good reason. Anyone who is still interested, lets go outside and I can see a quick drill of your weapon skill, to see what there is to work with. Or you can explain to me what you can bring besides doing well enough to draw our enemies out."
ooc:[sblock]will start a new thread for outside the inn, people can 'try out' then come back in if it doesn'twork out[/sblock]
