"Ah, well..." Gark stammers uncharacteristically, while scratching his back. "You are certainly well-informed about me. I'm curious as to how you got your information.

But, I am also happy to be direct. I hear you are formerly of my house. I care not for why you are no longer, but I wanted to know what you know of our mark... the lore. The source of the ...power. I know what can be learned from the official records, but I also know there is much more to it than that. And... I heard that you were trained in the art of polearm weapons, and I wondered if you are open to an apprentice. I can compensate you...
" Gark stammers a bit, catching himself as he wonders if an offer of money might be taken as an insult. His eyes quickly look for a reaction.[/sblock]

"Yes, I have access to certain...information through a friend, although I can't be more specific I'm afraid. I see you are nearly as informed as I am about you, but that's to be expected, I suppose. You also likely heard the rumours of my ... removal ... from the House then? Are you willing to be taintedby being seen with me?" the half-elf says, chuckling at Gark's stammering.[/sblock]

"If you think being a shifter in my house doesn't already prepare me for anything your association might do to my reputation, then you clearly became 'unaffiliated' even longer ago than I thought," Gark shoots back, obviously on more firm ground in his response.

"Look, I told you I didn't care about your predicament and I don't. I want answers and you are one of the few who I think may yet have them - or at least, one of the few who may yet give them."[/sblock]

"Very well, I just know the pain I suffered at the hands of certain elements of the House. Very well, you got spunk kid, I'll give you that. Ok, so you want my help to train you with what I know. My reputation's enough that I don't need to get into specifics of my skills, or what I can offer you. Regarding my fee, I have little need for gold or other coins, I have more than enough to live how I wish to for the rest of my days. What I need is a favor. A friend of mine who has helped me stay under Lyrandar's attentions for a number of years needs some help. She needs discretion in this matter and I wish your help in this. I can say that it is certainly dangerous, enough that 2 members of the initial team sent to investigate have returned without completing their task. If you want my help, you can agree to help me. I can tell you more after you decide" he says [/sblock]

You always have a choice in life. I could have chose to hide in the forests or other dark corners of the world, yet I have chosed another path. That is your first lesson. I also will not force you into this, I harbor no ill will towards you if you chose not to complete this request. [/sblock]

[sblock=Theos]Gark smiles. "The illusion of choice is hardly a choice, is it? But enough; I will help. What favor do you need?"[/sblock]

"Very well. A friend of mine is a member of House Cannith. They recently had one of their inactive Creation Forges' wards trigger, possibly indicating an attempt to enter the complex. The location was hidden and she suspects that someone in the House is involved, therefore can't bring in normal resources to investigate. A team of adventurers was recruited from this tavern not long ago, within the day to be exact, but already contacts of my friend have noted that at least two of the members of the group abandoned the task before even reaching the destination. I would ask that you go and aid the group in their task of clearing out any intruders. If you still agree, and are willing to sign an agreement swearing secrecy of what you find in there and its location, I'll give you directions to it." Theos says, sliding across a House Sivis notarized document laying out the that an investigation will be undertaken and that the location must remain hidden from public knowledge. A set fee of 2,400 gold pieces will also be provided to the group who completes the task for the House.

"We've also arranged an airship to a nearby settlement, a private vessel, to get you there with all haste." he adds

I'll be able to introduce you very, very shortly in the IC thread. [/sblock]

[sblock=Theos]Gark begins to scowl at the mention of the word Cannith, and his scowl only gets worse as the rest of the story unfolds. "And you call this person your friend? This is not the type of job I was hoping for..." He pauses for a moment as his face betrays an internal conflict. "Well, I have given you my word that I will help and I trust you shall keep yours if I do. I knew this path would be treacherous but it remains the fastest one before me. Very well, I'll sign whatever you want." He reluctantly signs the paper after reading it. "I hope this friend is worth it to you."

After another moment he looks up and adds, "It is not stipulated that the forge remain in operable or recoverable condition, only that it remains hidden, correct?"[/sblock]

[sblock=Gark]
"This Cannith was more a friend to me than any Lyrandar's been, although I hope you will be an exception. I owe her a lot more than this, although there is nothing in there about operable or recoverable" he replies with a mischievous glint in his eye at the last part.

"Anything else I can provide before you go?"he says[/sblock]

[sblock=Theos]"Good. And I suppose making sure whoever has broken in is kept from using this ancient forge is ultimately serving the greater good, even if it is for less than noble reasons.

Airship, you say? Is it one run by my house? That would be less suspicious I suppose. I know where the docks are if you'll just let me know which ship and who to contact.

Otherwise, I'd like to know about the previous party - not the ones who left, but the ones who've stayed, if you have that information. I'm wondering who else would take on such a task and for what reason."

OOC: Is there anything you would provide him with, besides information? I can't think of anything.[/sblock]
