Technical thread for Server Discussion (merged)

188GB / month out (I'm assuming their 'in' is really our 'out' since I'm sure there are more reads from the system than writes back to it).

76 kilobytes per second * 60 (seconds/minute) *60 (minutes/hour)*24(hours/day)*30(days/month)=196,992,000 kilobytes/month /1024 (kB/mB) = 192,375 megabytes/month / 1024 (mB/gB) = 187.8 gigabytes/month.

It would be ~33gB/month in the opposite direction.

Definitely trending up. Weekly average is a third higher than annual average.

The thing is that the server hasn't been able to handle the spikes from a processing standpoint. The server's stalling while it creates pages helps put a cap on how much it can send out. The new servers won't have such a stall, so there will be a rise in bandwidth use. We won't know for certain until the new system goes up.

I just wanted to make sure that the idea of using a PHP accelerator doesn't get lost. I've seem them give some pretty impressive speed boosts. We should definitely consider mmcache or something similar.

I just talked to my boss and she said okay on donating the card, if you guys want to email me with where to send it. But it may not be necessary if you are getting a Motherboard with a built in SCSI controller, which many server boards do. So, do you know what motherboard you're getting or what the model number is?

Ultra2 is max 40 mb/sek (or 80 mb/sek for Ultra2 Wide). Can possibly be a bottleck if the disk's are faster than that.

Code:
Ultra SCSI 20 MB/sek	SE/HVD	50-pin
Wide Ultra SCSI 40 MB/sek	SE/HVD	68-pin
Ultra2 SCSI 40 MB/sek	LVD/HVD	50-pin
Wide Ultra2 SCSI	80 MB/sek	LVD/HVD	68-pin
Ultra3 SCSI 160 MB/sek	LVD	68-pin
Ultra160 SCSI 160 MB/sek	LVD	68-pin
Ultra320 SCSI 320 MB/sek	LVD	68-pin

Rackhir, thank you so much (and thank your boss!) for your incredibly kind offer. Adlon has a high-end Adaptec card picked out already, though, so we're going to pass. You get credit for donating - that's going out of your way to make our board better, and it's truly appreciated.

Man, I hate turning down stuff. :)
