The problem you're having is that you don't seem to realize that it's teens who get to decide what behaviors are "silly" and "dorky" (and I think those terms are pretty dated, BTW). In a couple years, all teens will probably be doing this, and us internet old-timers who think it's stupid are going to be the uncool (<- dated term) adults.

Maybe not. For a couple of years there, I was convinced the whole 'leetspeak and IM abbreviation things were going to butcher the language with everyone using '4' instead of 'for' and things like that, but it never seems to have taken off.

One thing I also remember from my teen years is that there are a lot of things that are cool when a teen does them but just sad when an adult tries to do them.
