Telepor-falling

David Jose
Having successfully killed off the pre-generated party by grossly underestimating kobolds, my group has decided to make a death-cult stomping party of eladrin.

I forsee, amidst the ensuing discussion of teleportation aided tactics, questions of what exactly you can do after teleporting, but before you start falling 5 squares. Anyone know if there's something official along these lines?

You immediately fall. Wait for the DMG.

My unofficial ruling: Teleporting out into open space means you start falling immediately. Gravity doesn't just wait around for you to finish what you were doing (despite what early American cartoons would have you believe).

I would rule that the only thing you can do is an acrobatic stunt to avoid falling on your face. At a DC of 20-25, maybe turn it into a charge (dive).

WHy would you fall 5 squares? Teleporting off of a cliff or something?

A 1st level Eldarin with 18 Str can lift a 360lb bolder then teleport it to 25ft above a foes head...ref vs squish.

Since THIS Eldarin is trained in athletics and has a 16 Dex he can make a skill check in athletics at +8 (as a free action) to reduce some of the 2d10 damage he would take.

I call it the El Darin'

So is there no limit to where you can teleport to with a teleport power? I thought there was something that stopped you moving to squares you could otherwise never get to...

In order of appearance:

Valdier: This is what I assumed, but are you guessing, or have you seen it?

Yaezakura: I envision the turn sequence as a continuously moving and intertwined procession, not a series of individual moves and pauses. If you're playing volleyball, and you jump up to spike the ball, you don't have to wait till you hit the ground before you spike it.

Evenglare: My first thought was port->port to get 10 squares up, but it's an encounter power. Then I started thinking about someone teleporting 5 squares straight up to get line of sight on someone who was hidden by a 6 square high cliff, or 5 squares up to hit a flying creature with a melee weapon, or 5 squares up above the evil mage who is surrounded by a ring of minions, who they then attack on the way down.

MindWanderer: That's an interesting proposition, especially since I know that one of the guys is going the acrobatics route.

Family: Ugh...

Saeviomagy: Only as a houserule. There's a rule limiting your movement to squares where you'd be squeezing, but nothing limiting you (RAW) from an open space within range.

A 360lb rock is actually pretty small. IIRC a granite sphere weighing that much would only be 19"-20" in diameter. It'd take over 20 to fill a 5' square...

I did the math once, and realized how appalingly strong a character would have to be to lift a rock big enough to make for a good fantasy illustration or movie scene...

Cartoons or jumping in 3.5. I loved(sarcasm) the rule that if you jumped further than your movement, you were hanging in air until your next turn where you could complete your move.
