Teleport + Illusion spells combo

Hello there.

According to page 264 in the PHB you have a certain chance of arriving on target with a Teleport spell depending on the circumstances, which is quite reasonable. You have a pretty good chance if you are familiar with the target; on the other hand you are less likely to succeed if you have only been there once. If you have a description of the area you only have roughly 50% chance of succeeding.

Now I wonder... Let's say I (the wizard) have never been to a certain location. On the other hand my friend (the monk) are very familiar with the area. Can I improve my chance of arriving "on target" by studying my own illusion (that is, by creating an illusion of the area with an illusion type spell) of the area that my friend will help me alter until the area looks exactly as my friend remembers?

Thanks.

Don't know about that. Maybe it would qualify as "studied carefully". You'll probably have to try several times, as you can't modify the illusion once it's cast (well, maybe, depends on the spell).

Alternatively, take a look at this spell from BoEM:

Teleport Coordinates Transfer

School: Divination
Level: Sor/Wiz 6
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft.+5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One creature
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

If you know a location well, you can communicate information about it mentally to someone else with enough accuracy and detail to allow the other person to teleport to the area as if personally familiar with the location. Alternatively, if you learn of a location through a spell like discern location, teleport tracer, or legend lore, you can use this spell to teleport there as if you were very familiar with the location.
In no way does this spell provide the actual means of teleportation. You provide your own mode of teleport.

NIMG. It's still only a description. Your crafting of a detailed illusion does not constitute "viewed once". It constitutes viewing an illusion, but you crafted the illusion based on a description.

By the way, the chance is 52%.

In the campaign in which I play, we have used Detect Thoughts on someone who is thinking really hard about a location to bump up our Teleport chances to the "Viewed Once" category.

I realize this probably qualifies as a House Rule, but it seems a reasonable approach and would be quite a bit faster and more convenient than sculpting an illusion based on someone's description.

Hope this helps.
