I don't have the linkie to the article, but, I remember reading about the last days of TSR and finding massive numbers of unsold 1e books. THAT'S expensive.

That's an expensive inventory amangement mistake. I would certainly have bought an 1e rulebook in the mid 90s if I could... if, say, TSR sold them... which they didn't.
