Tell me about the Warrior Skald

My norse themed barbarian is about to pick up the leadership feat. He will definately be acquiring a bard as a sidekick. One of the other players in the game was telling me he saw a Warrior Skald prestige class in Races of Faerun. Needless to say the name alone has me interested. So anyone care to share their thoughts of or experiences with the warrior skald? Is it worth picking up the book for a prestige class for a cohort?

No clue on that one, sorry.

But if I may suggest an alternative? Warblade / Bard, with mostly Bard levels, and the Warblade focused on White Raven stances & maneuvers.

Cheers, -- N

Simple bbn1/bardX or bbn2/bardX works wonderful as well. Get extra Rage, a good strength, medium Con and battlecaster to compensate your low dex.

It's an ok class, but I wouldn't go out and get the book for this alone. There are a bunch of snazzy classes in there though (I'm quite fond of the Spellsinger (Excellent Countersong ability) and the Elven High Mage), but the best stuff is all the background material on the Faerunian races.

Be careful with the acquire Bardic Music ability of the Warrior Skald. Since it's a 3.0 bard prestige class, Warrior Skald grants nerly all the bardic music effects on its first level. Adjusting it to 3.5, you should allow the Warrior Skald levels to stack with bard levels only for uses per day and effective bard level for existing bardic music abilities.

Note also that bard spellcasting is not advanced with this class. Combining this class with War Chanter (CW) or can be pretty potent. Feats such as Snowflake Wardance (Frostburn) and Ironskin chant (CAdv) are worthwhile for such a character, as are Extra Rage (CW) and Extra Music (CAdv). There may also be some excellent goodies in the PHB2, but I don't have that book.
