Tell me of the RPGs you got at discount price

Way back in the mid-80's a local toy store chain was discontinuing all of their D&D merchandise due to complaints from parents. This was when adventures were $6-10 and hardcovers were $15-25. All they had left were a bunch of adventures and they marked them to $5.00 each. Actually, the sign said, "ALL DUNGEONS & DRAGONS BOOKS $5.00!"

I picked up a few adventures at a decent discount and was rummagin through the endcap they were displayed on (and had been on for years) when I noticed a few adventures had fallen behind the shelves. I was digging them out to see if there was anything else worth buying, when my hand hit something deep under the bottom shelf and covered with dust. With a bit of effort, I extracted a copy of Deities & Demi-Gods and quickly counted the Table of Contents, vs. the number of chapters in the book. Much to my delight, it contained all of the pantheons (this was after the two had been removed by TSR). I purchased it for the $5.00 quickly.

BTW, a member of my gaming group picked up EQ II for $9.95... the platinum edition in the collectible tin due to a pricing mistake at the local Wal-Mart.

I have also scored some great deals on ebay, but don't remember the specifics.

I once bought Cyborg Commando for £1 (USD2).

That was a pound I'd never get back.

I gave it away...

:D

This game has an honored place in my Bad RPG collection... :)

And to add to the thread. I've bought so many discount games I've lost count. The best was a mint condition Red Box D&D game for $2 at a yard sale. Still had the dice in their plastic bag and the crayon to color them with...

I think I may be the only person in the world that had a lot of fun playing that came. Of course, most of the fun game from the fact that we called each other "Chet" (obvious to those that have seen the cover) and insisted on doing extremely stupid things. Almost treated it more like Paranoia than anything else.

EDIT: Fixed a really bad typo.

I heard that Limper got World's Largest Dungeon for $40!
Hey Keeper,

I will be in the States next week and definetly wand TWLD for this price. I is so expensive ober here. What's this Limper? A book store chain? Are they nationwide? Do someone now a store in NYC?

I couldn't possibly recall everything I have gotten for less than full price over the years, as much of my purchasing is done via second hand items & eBay.

There is one item that stands out...

I picked up a giant binder with the entire Encyclopedia Harnica for the cost of shipping from an eBay seller who mentioned it off hand when I asked if he had any other Harn books (this was after winning an auction from him)!

I recently got Villains and Vigilantes--still in it's box--with 8 modules for 2 bucks at a garage sale.

WooT!

Nice.

I got:

Cyborg Commando for $2
Top Secret (original), Companion book, 2 adventures, all in the box for $4
Interstellar Elite Combat (never even read it yet) for $1
3/4 of Star Frontiers boxed set (including maps & counters) for free (originally for $6, but since the main rulebook was missing, the ebay vendor refunded my money and told me to keep it)

But my big scores were actually Avalon Hill -style games

DUNE for $1
Star Fleet Battles & 3 expansion sets for $1
KingMaker for $2
Dark Nebula for $1

Limper is another user here, not a book store.

And he's a LUCKY user, to have found a copy for $40.

Back in the mid 80s, TSR shrink wrapped 1e adventures in groups of 3 for $10 and they were sold at some discount toy stores. My brother and I picked up probably 30 classic adventures that way, and they kept us occupied through most of middle school. I have two copies of Dieties and Demigods (with Cthulhu & Elric) that I found in used book shops for less than $10 each. Lots of other books found in used shops as well-D&D Cyclopedia, some MERP, GURPS, Elfquest RPG, and other stuff I don't remember right now. In college there was a bookstore that went out of business near me, and I picked up a bunch of WEG Star Wars books and a few Al-Qadim box sets for $5 each. I've bought lots of stuff on Ebay, best deal was an unopened copy of the Moldvay Basic set for $3. Recently I purchased 10 books from FFG in their $5 sale. And then there is the whole ENnies load I got last year for being a judge, but I guess that doesn't count.
