Tell Me What Is Good And Bad About "Legends of Excalibur," Please.

If I was given a choice between this and the Sword & Sorcery's Relics & Rituals: Excalibur I would have to think a good long nanosecond before choosing Legends of Excalibur. It stays relatively pure to the source, unlike the R&R version, which tries to sandwich in half-orcs among other things. This is an attempt to run a game for Arthurian adventures using the D20 system, while R&R is an attempt to run D&D in an Arthurian setting. Mallory's The Death of Arthur seems the largest influence, and it is pretty true to those roots. Though I admit to a preference of the Vulgate over the Mallory I realize that not everyone shares this idiosyncracy.

The Auld Grump, who felt that in the recent movie Arthur Guinevier was wearing either too little clothing or too much...

*EDIT* Hmmm, I see that Crothian made comments on my post while I was editing it...

THe two book are written for different audiences reallt. Legends is writen for someone who want to do King Auther and changes d20 in good ways to fit. R&R is for people who want d20 with some auther like stuff in it, not relaly as deep or realistic but easier to use with the other d20 fantasy people have. Personally, I like both but I perfer Legends.

Yeah, I could see that, but I like my Arthurian legends to be Arthurian, and some of R&R's choices... did not inspire me at all. Creating a new religion and including half-orcs, dwarfs, and elfs as PC races in the game particularly bothered me. Then again, I really like Pendragon, so my opinion is biased. I also like Green Ronin's Medieval Player's Handbook, which I felt would go well with Legends. I was not impressed with R&R: Olympus either. Fortunately there are other choices available for a bronze age game, should I ever get around to one.

Medieval Player's Manual *does* go good with Legends of Excalibur. So good, in fact that you should expect to see something tie in along those lines from me in the next couple of months.
