Tell your overdue Kickstarter story

Waiting on an overdue Kickstarter? Let us know in our survey!
FAILURE!.png

We're putting together a potential article on overdue (or failed!) crowdfunding projects.

So, tell us your story. Which crowdfunders are overdue, and by how much? What was the original estimated delivery date? We've set up a survey with which you can provide us information, and we'll be using that survey to put together an article in early 2026.

We have set a 1-year limit on this--to keep this down to a reasonable list, only crowdfunders which are a year or more overdue, please! That's a year or more past the estimated delivery date listed on the crowdfunding page.

Also, please note that this is for tabletop roleplaying game projects only.

Use the link below to fill out the short survey. It should only take a couple of minutes. Please note that if you include anything in the additional comments box, you may be quoted in the article.

Note--this thread was originally started in late 2024, but the survey has been created as of 20 December 2025 for an article due to be published in early 2026.

I had a string of kickstarter disasters not long after I started using it.

E20 System Evolved (already mentioned above)
Throne of Night (already mentioned above)
City State of the Invincible Overlord (I don't think that was mentioned above, but there was a thread about the new kickstarter; it was due November 2014)
Sigantium Academy (due January 2016)
Legacy Superhero RPG (already mentioned above)
Sea of Stars (due August 2015)

There's also been a few kickstarters where some of the stretch goals have been outstanding for a long time, but I feel like I got my money's worth so I'm not bothered - Bulldogs (FATE edition), Blades in the Dark, Mindjammer

Interface Zero for Fate I got the main product but no stretch goals (due March 2016)

I'm backing a number of kickstarters that are currently overdue, but none of them are a year late and I'm confident I'll get them all fairly soon.

oooh. I have a bunch. Let's focus on 3 of the most egregious:

Bergin's Book of Beasts - Penny Dragon Games. went MIA since 4/2024.
2c Gaming - Grimoire of the Grave - MIA since 10/2023.
Quartermaster Games - The Gloaming Wild - MIA since 5/2023.

I've backed 135 Kickstarters since 2020, mostly because I like collecting and I wanted to support small publishers. There's about a 7-10% failure rate. At this point, I'm only backing the oxymoronic bigger small publishers and publishers that have a proven track record with me.

Some of the publishers that I will still support are Sly Flourish, MCG, Kobold Press, EN Publishing, Metis Media, Ghostfire, The Arcane Library, Acheron Books and MCDM.

I'm beginning to think my really pretty good track record comes from not usually backing KSers in the D&D and adjacent 3pp sphere....

(To be clear, not saying all such folks are flakes, but possibly because so many people fish in that pool, they seem to get a relatively high number of them compared to others. It can't be just raw numbers I'd think since I'm a Superbacker on KS...)

I back a lot - just on Kickstarter, I have 1814(!) projects and counting- most of them TTRPGs. I did better about tracking a while ago, but the spreadsheet combined with the archaic interfaces for getting information about your backed projects along with my general rate of backing made that a lost cause a while ago. That said, when I was tracking, my rate of projects I was dissatisfied with or that didn't deliver was well within my tolerance for risk, especially since I started to use my experience to see red flags - I was getting some good side-gig work as a consultant using that list to help people work out their problems.

That said, my worst are:

Relic/Wicked Ones 2.0 (Bandit Camp)
Apotheosis Drive X

Both piss me off because I saw the red flags and backed at a low level, but then gave more in the pledge manager.

I'm on the Song of the Siren (or whatever that one by the terrible two). I should have taken the fulfillment of their prior one as indication that I shouldn't back this one, but here we are.

Far West, of course, was on that list, though it finally delivered- for better or worse. It was another one I backed at a low level and then gave more money after the fact. I guess I should stop doing that.

Those are the ones that really stand out, though I've refined my backing criteria and am very willing to back at $1 just to follow and see if my instincts are right. I've also taken the approach to follow loosely instead of hanging on each update. It makes the misses easier to ride along on.
