Telling Time

The little uncertainty is why people weren't to strict on meeting times and if it was really important the meeting would be at sunrise, or sunset due to their unequivicable nature, or noon because its quite easy to judge.

Actually Ricimer the reason for meetings at High Noon or sunset etc is because those were the ONLY times that everyone knew simply because the concept of 'regular time intervals' had not been invented.

Yes I too can tell time by the sun (and by the moon too btw) but thats because you and I are use to such regular intervals which equate the 15degrees to 1 hour.

You could say 'lets meet when the sun is 45degrees from Zenith' but Mid-afternoon sounds much better and somehow I suspect thats how the 'standard' character would tend to view time too

So try this little analogue
Time sense for:
Character Player
Dawn 6am
Midmorning 9
Noon 12
Midafternoon 3
Dusk 6pm

Ok...so here's a question about telling time. Suppose the party has been inside a tower (such as Nightfang Spire) for several days. Absolutely nobody has had contact with the outside in any way for more than 2 days. Would that party be able to tell time and if so, how close could they come to being accurate?
The reason I ask is let's say multiple people were hit by a level drain from an undead in a combat. After 24 hours, they must make a Fort save to avoid having it permanent. Would they know when this would occur so as to cast short term duration spells to help in the Fort saves? It kinda makes you wonder if you "feel" the effect of the save coming on or it just takes place without your knowledge. Thanks for the help!

I think my character will start carrying arround a water clock with him all the time.

Of course without a water source it would not work to well but my character is half retarded so he will not notice.

Of course one of the smarter characters in the party might suggest he bought a Decanter of Endless Water.

But you still need to keep it steady. Running around fighting will not be good for tying to keep it level.

Ducktape ? (oh.. I thought of the Decanter being steady)

Putting it in a portable hole should keep the clock sufficiently steady.

Ducttape will fix anything.

The hole is a good idea he does have one.

It took him quite a while to learn not to put his bag of holding in one....
