Temporary stat increases and feat requirements....

The sensible caster, obviously, will designate his long-term buffs, since he'll be casting those in the morning anyway, but I don't have a major problem with that.

Personally I really like the idea of allowing feat selections when you can't normally make the prerequisites.

For starters it allows the existence of barbarians who can only use certain feats while raging. Or druids who can only use certain feats while wildshaped. That's just cool.

The question, though, is where does it stop? What about prestige classes? Does the head of the cats claw duelling pride really lose half his levels whenever he takes up a rapier (speak with animals from his druid class is a prerequisite for his control animals feat, which is a prerequisite for his catlord levels)? What if your prerequisites become circularly fulfilling (ie - suppose in the above example that catlord gave access to the spell speak with animals - would losing the druid levels still lose him his catlord levels)?

So what about allowing Prestige Classes before you meet the prerequisites?

All you get from your PrC levels is BAB, hit points, and saves, until you qualify.

Thus, you can start taking levels in Arcane Archer at 1st level. You go through to AA6, picking up the three required feats at 1st, 3rd, and 6th level. Then, you multiclass to AA6/Wiz1... fulfilling the last requirement. This finally grants you access to Imbue Arrow, Seeker Arrow, Phase Arrow, and Enchant Arrow +3.

... at CL7.

Maybe not such a great idea after all... :)

I like being able to take feats you don't normally qualify for. Prereqs such as skill ranks or BAB that can't be temporarily changed should be hard restrictions, but things such as stats or other feats shouldn't be. I'm talking about Roll With It here and I think it would be cool for a barbarian to suddenly gain damage reduction while raging... makes sense, and it's by no means unbalanced.

Tenser's Transformation, Divine Power...

You know what? If you want to burn a feat slot on something you can only use after you've cast a 6th level spell that removes your classes' primary ability (in the case of TT)...

Go right ahead. You'll still be second (or third)-rate compared to the fighter, and you'll be depriving the party of your arcane support.

Divine power is probably easier to abuse, but I still don't think it'd be a problem.

I think there's a qualitative difference between these two situations. Saev was suggesting allowing feats to be taken that you qualify for sometimes but not always - whereas in your example, the character never qualifies for the PrC at the level at which she takes it.

So, yeah, yours was a bad idea. Doesn't mean Saev's is.
