If you're curious about it, the Tension Engine is a d6 dice pool/roll and keep system that was first used in my debut game, Party First. It uses a back and forth flow of player and GM metacurrency to build narrative and mechanical tension and then breaks that for unexpected events that create a cinematic style of pacing.
