I´ve watched the episode again, and there´s one scene that´s pretty odd: when John leans over Cameron in the bed, opening her chest with the knife and feeling the metal inside her. I really don´t know what to do with it.
Any thoughts?

Well, what they try to do supposedly is to figure out if there is some kind of shielding leak that might cause cancer.

It was still a - in a bizarre and possibly disturbing way - a sexy scene.

I think I've read somewhere the interpretation that Cameron actually did it to remind John of the fact that she is not a frigging human and he shouldn't treat her like one.

I think it might be something taken on again in the next season - if there is one - (warning: Speculation follows)

where John apparently meets the original human Cameron. Maybe he falls in love with her and brings her back to the past with him, or something like that.
