I see no evidence that humanity is getting any better, only that it's capacity for destruction is increasing.

A technical development, not a moral one, and one that accepts population growth and increases pressure on resources. On a personal level, a dead baby is a tragedy, but so far as the planet is concerned..,Yeah well this is an ongoing argument.
I mean the fact that most nations don’t have a 70-80% infant mortality rate barely rates as an improvement right?
What do mean by “free” and is giving more of it to idiots actually a good thing? The fact that most of us live in fairly free countries where the rule of law typically works isn’t even worth mentioning.
As healthy as you can afford to pay for. And productivity consumes resources faster than sitting around chewing leaves. The fact that most of us will live healthy, productive lives free from even the slightest hint of starvation? Pshaw.
Plenty of people using their freedom to work very hard to reverse all those things. Still plenty of people killed for having the wrong religion; slavery is illegal, but there is still loads of it; the rights of women are still recovering from a sharp decline in the 18th and 19th centuries. These things are cyclical, not progressive. The fact that we don’t have open slave markets? Women actually have rights? You aren’t being burned at the stake for walking into the wrong church?
Humanity has not changed at all. Technology has made life easier, at the expense of draining the planet’s resources more quickly, thus accelerating extinction.Obviously we have not improved at all.
I think we're just going to have to disagree here. But, to be fair, your take is precisely the take that they take in the show. The fact that in 1997, Japan had not had a single armed conflict in three generations and had see massive economic growth and growth in freedoms I guess means they are just doing worse than they were.Humanity has not changed at all. Technology has made life easier, at the expense of draining the planet’s resources more quickly, thus accelerating extinction.
5 episodes in and loving it so far. The only part that drags is the dad talking to the program
Who does even care whether the planet exists or that nature goes on?A technical development, not a moral one, and one that accepts population growth and increases pressure on resources. On a personal level, a dead baby is a tragedy, but so far as the planet is concerned..,
