More philosophy in new one. Are the machines right lol.

I've often had the thought if aliens turned up or sentient machines and impartially judged us we we past muster? Or would they press that bi red button.

We're basically a threat to every other species around us just by existing.
What makes you think either of those things are capable of impartial judgement?

Every species is a threat to every other species. That’s called life. Even plants are constantly at war with each other trying to kill the competition. Nothing lives that isn’t a threat to something.

This is true, but also a misrepresentation, as every other species is also dependent on all the other species. If the foxes eat all the rabbits the foxes also become extinct. If things get out of balance in the long run nature tends to self-correct, but in thr short term it’s disastrous, such as the introduction of domestic cats to NZ kiwis.

And the self-correction to the current massive over-population of humans is mass extinction of humans.

I. NZ we kill feral cats to protect things like Kiwis. I've got into arguments with animal rights types overseas about it lol.

In thus scenario an AI (or Alien intelligence) judges us as the invasive species. We're the cats in that scenario.

In the original Terminator Humans panicked and tried killing Skynet first after all.

It's not hard to look at video footage of our misdemeanors either.

We've put ourselves above other species due to our intelligence etc. We decree what's a parasite, invasive species, pest or weed based on our criteria.

A sufficiently advanced AI or alien could judge us the same way. The other AI even said that her decision was "we'll see".

She may not save us by fighting skynet and it's implied she allies it.

We have another good Terminator though product though feels weird;).

TV batting average is 2-0.

Indeed, which illustrates humans can help to correct imbalances if they choose to.

But taking the necessary steps to control the population of humans is harder.

We do that as well.

If this was a D&D campaign and Shadow Druids pointed out this to a warforged Druid.....

An AI hypothetically would be able to control it's numbers better and wouldn't need to provide more stuff beyond it's needs

Indeed, AI is much better suited to long term survival, and the survival of human-created AI is, in a sense, the best chance for the survival of part of humanity.
